This Week at Council: In the Heights, and Affordable Housing!

It was another three-pack of meetings at city council this week with two meetings where council sat as a shareholder of corporations owned by the City of Guelph, and then there was the monthly planning meeting. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the February 11, 2025 Planning Meeting?

This month’s planning meeting features no new developments, but it does lay the potential ground work for future developments. Coming up at this meeting is the first phase of how high we can go downtown, and another new community improvement plan. We will also hear about two objections to two different heritage designations, and, for a change of pace, we will talk about trains (on the same night as the GJR shareholder meeting)! This Week at Council: The Epic Season Finale!

Two epic meetings in less than 24 hours! This is how the council year ended with a slate of controversial items from changes to planning policy to statements of intent from council. First, at the planning meeting, there was a last ditch effort to save the historic greenhouse at the University of Guelph and at the regular meeting on Wednesday, some councillor looked to dissent from the mayor’s public statements. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the November 13, 2024 Meeting?

It’s a packed agenda for this November planning meeting, covering a lot of bases and requiring some pretty big decisions.
