Since Committee of the Whole this month landed on April Food’s Day, we can think of the regular council meeting as a late Easter treat. The treat though is that the main focus of this meeting is on the consent agenda from the earlier Committee of the Whole meeting, but there is a new item in the form of administrative business on a grant from the provincial government. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the April 8, 2025 Meeting?

Welcome to the agenda for the April planning meeting, and for the first time in a couple of months we have a genuine planning proposal for new units. That’s later in the agenda, first, council has approve another whole batch of heritage designations, and then approve two major pieces of policy in the form of getting higher downtown (building-wise speaking) and charging density and development in the area around Stone Road Mall. April showers brings Committee of the Whole. No fooling, this meeting will have some pretty big financial implications, and some pretty small ones as well when the horseshoe tackles development debt, new development arrangements, and the final update to a tree bylaw, plus the future of the Drill Hall will be determined. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 25, 2025 Meeting?

The last meeting for March is a recital of the past. Yes, as usual, we will revisit the (almost whole) agenda from this month’s Committee of the Whole meeting, but there’s also new/old controversy with a returning bylaw that caused a lot of hand wringing last year. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 18, 2025 Meeting?

City council takes March Break too. After the kids go back to school, council will get back to work with this month’s planning meeting. No specific project is on the agenda for discussion or approval, but there is going to be a lot of discussion about the creation of more housing as staff will talk about all the plans, plus the city-owned property that can help make it happen. The first couple of Committee of the Whole meeting this year have been pretty dry, but this March meeting is very stacked by comparison! First, there will be long awaited final report on changes to advisory committee of councils, and along with that there will be the mid-term review of governance at city council. It’s been a while since we’ve had an orientation, or workshop, meeting of city council, so what have we got here? In a word: “Construction”. You probably know that old joke about how there are only two seasons in Canada, and as we now wallow in the depths of winter, city council will start looking to that other season, and there’s going to be a lot of it in the months and years to come. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the February 11, 2025 Planning Meeting?

This month’s planning meeting features no new developments, but it does lay the potential ground work for future developments. Coming up at this meeting is the first phase of how high we can go downtown, and another new community improvement plan. We will also hear about two objections to two different heritage designations, and, for a change of pace, we will talk about trains (on the same night as the GJR shareholder meeting)! City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the February 11, 2025 Shareholder Meetings?

A shareholder meeting? In February? Has the world gone topsy-turvy?! Not really. While it’s true that the shareholder meeting for both Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc. and Guelph Junction Railway is in June, there’s a kind of small but important piece that city council needs to do as the shareholder for both these organisations before they close out the fiscal year.
