City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 21, 2026 Meetings?

Two meetings in one night for this one. Yes, there is the regular meeting of Guelph City Council on this night, and as it stands right now it doesn’t have a lot in terms of new material. Before that agenda though, prepare to have a sense of déjà vu because the regular meeting is preceded by a shareholder meeting of Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc, which is all about additional information from a previous meeting!

NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to register with the clerks office before 10 am on Friday June 19. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.

NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.

NOTE #3: There will be two meetings back-to-back on this date.

Shareholder Meeting of Council -4:30 pm

CLOSED MEETING:

GMHI Shareholder Information and Alectra Capital Update – Before learning more in the open session, it seems like the shareholder (council) will be getting more information about it in closed. This is covered under section 239(2)(i) for a “trade secret or scientific, technical, commercial, financial or labour relations information, supplied in confidence to the municipality or local board, which, if disclosed, could reasonably be expected to prejudice significantly the competitive position or interfere significantly with the contractual or other negotiations of a person, group of persons, or organization.”

GMHI Shareholder Information and Alectra Update – At last month’s annual shareholder meeting, the shareholder heard about Alectra’s $3.1 billion capital investment plan for the next five years, which is focused on replacing aging electrical infrastructure, meeting growing electricity demand, and improving the resilience and modernization of the distribution system. The report provides some expanded context about those efforts including the possible harmonization of distribution rates across all of Alectra’s legacy service areas into a single utility-wide rate structure.
