City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 23 Meeting?

One more meeting before council takes the rest of the summer off, and in the best tradition of the last day before summer vacation, it looks like a pretty light agenda. Council will get one more chance to weigh in on the Committee of the Whole agenda, but only after a lengthy closed session with multiple topics of interest. So without further ado, let’s just get into the cliffhangers in this mid-season finale of city council.

NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to registerwith the clerks office before 10 am on Friday June 21. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.

NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.

CLOSED MEETING:

Solid Waste Scales Project Contract Settlement – Since this is a matter “subject to solicitor-client privilege, including communications necessary for that purpose” it has to be discussed in closed session under Section 239(2) (f) of the Municipal Act.

35, 45 and 55 Silvercreek Parkway: Ontario Land Tribunal Update – This concerns the long-running attempt to develop the open property along Silvercreek Parkway and south of Paisley. Since this concerns ” litigation or potential litigation, including matters before administrative tribunals” it has to discussed under Section 239(2) (e) and (f) of the Municipal Act.

Memorandum of Agreement with International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 357 – Some City of Guelph employees, including those at the River Run Centre, are member’s of IATSE. Since this is a matter of “labour relations or employee negotiations” it’s a closed meeting item under Section 239(2) (d) of the Municipal Act.

Update re: Habitat for Humanity Development Charges – Not sure what precisely this is referring to, but it’s covered under Section 239(2) (k) of the Act for a “position, plan, procedure, criteria or instruction to be applied to any negotiations carried on or to be carried on by or on behalf of the municipality or local board.”
