City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 31, 2026 Meeting?

After a two week break, council gets back down to business with two referrals, one from earlier this month and one from last month. Council will finally have to make a choice about how much the next council will be paid, and they will also have to square that last piece of business about future plans for the Sleeman Centre. Also, this meeting will feature two special guests, who will give their annual reports on integrity and lobbying. This Week at Council: The Centre of the Universe

It was all Sleeman Centre all the time at this month’s Committee of the Whole meeting. Well, almost. First though, the committee had a discussion about development fees and whether or not they’re an impediment to new home construction, and there was really no final resolution there, but coincidentally that was also where they left the Sleeman Centre construction. For all the details, check out the recap below… Continue reading “This Week at Council: The Centre of the Universe”

Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 4, 2026 Meeting?

This month’s Committee of the Whole meeting is going to be a stacked affair. On the agenda will be at least one item that always appears at this time, plus a review of an important new piece of governance policy, a review of the allocation of rec facility space, and potential changes to how the Sleeman Centre operates. And if that’s not enough sports and recreation for you, the committee will get to know that department a little better. Here’s the preview! This Week at Council: It Was a Gas!

It was just going to be a quick meeting, 10 minutes in and out max, but a funny thing happened between that time and when the agenda was released a few weeks ago. Mostly, a couple of councillors wanted to have their say about more provincial overreach, in this case when it comes to how Queen’s Park is looking to override the Ontario Energy Board. So did council lay the smack down, and how many of them wanted no part of it? Read on… Continue reading “This Week at Council: It Was a Gas!”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 26 Meeting?

We come again to the end of the month and the regular council meeting. It’s been a pretty laid back month compared to last, and this meeting’s agenda fits that theme as council will revisit the very uncontroversial Committee of the Whole agenda, and then add another matter about whether not council should support the idea of subsidizing new pipelines. So let’s get into a very issues-oriented, nerds only kind of agenda. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 26 Meeting?”

This Week at Council: The Private Lives of Trees

This month’s Committee of the Whole meeting was a pretty usual affair, reports that were not really going to get anyone’s blood up unless they’re especially concerned about bylaws half finished or the scintillating world of auditing. What it will say on your property tax bill, what the City is planning to do to take care of trees on private property, and the workings of the Internal Audit team were all game for this meeting. Here’s the recap… Continue reading “This Week at Council: The Private Lives of Trees”
