It’s back to Committee of the Whole to start February with a meeting that shouldn’t make too many waves. The audit committee will take the wheel for most of this agenda, which will highlight the work of the internal auditor and it will also introduce council to a new policy to collect parking fines. And if all that isn’t scintillating enough, we will wrap up with a trip back to public services and paramedics. Let’s dig into it! This Week at Council: It Was a Gas!
It was just going to be a quick meeting, 10 minutes in and out max, but a funny thing happened between that time and when the agenda was released a few weeks ago. Mostly, a couple of councillors wanted to have their say about more provincial overreach, in this case when it comes to how Queen’s Park is looking to override the Ontario Energy Board. So did council lay the smack down, and how many of them wanted no part of it? Read on… Continue reading “This Week at Council: It Was a Gas!”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 26 Meeting?
We come again to the end of the month and the regular council meeting. It’s been a pretty laid back month compared to last, and this meeting’s agenda fits that theme as council will revisit the very uncontroversial Committee of the Whole agenda, and then add another matter about whether not council should support the idea of subsidizing new pipelines. So let’s get into a very issues-oriented, nerds only kind of agenda. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 26 Meeting?”
This Week at Council: The Private Lives of Trees
This month’s Committee of the Whole meeting was a pretty usual affair, reports that were not really going to get anyone’s blood up unless they’re especially concerned about bylaws half finished or the scintillating world of auditing. What it will say on your property tax bill, what the City is planning to do to take care of trees on private property, and the workings of the Internal Audit team were all game for this meeting. Here’s the recap… Continue reading “This Week at Council: The Private Lives of Trees”

Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 5, 2024 Meeting?
March comes in like a lamb at city council. There’s nothing terrible controversial in this month’s Committee of the Whole agenda, assuming, of course, that no one wants to start a fight about trees. But this is Guelph, so always assume there will be a fight about trees, and along with that there will also be matters of audit and tax policy for the horseshoe to chew on. Let’s dive in to the agenda…! Continue reading “Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 5, 2024 Meeting?”
This Week at Council: Parking Master Plan and Short-Term Rental Licences Approved
This week at council marked this last two meetings of the month. The first one was the surprisingly straightforward regular council meeting that was all about affirming the decisions from Committee of the Whole plus some GMHI business. The other meeting was more interesting, the opening of feedback from council about the new Downtown Parking Master Plan. Let’s cover it all in this week’s recap… Continue reading “This Week at Council: Parking Master Plan and Short-Term Rental Licences Approved”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 28 Meeting?
This regular meeting of council will hold no real surprises (except, perhaps, the start time). Council will ratify the Committee of the Whole agenda, and there may be some attempted adjustments made there on a couple of items, and there’s a surprise additional topic to be considered as part of the consent agenda. Also, come early for a special second meeting on an entirely different subject. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 28 Meeting?”
