June’s council business was concluded with a trifecta of meetings. Yes, there was the usual regular meeting and there was nothing really controversial about that business, so instead the friction fell at the Guelph Junction Railway shareholder meeting. At issue was not the business of GJR, but whether or not the company was doing enough to support the develop of trails adjacent to those tracks. Let’s get into it with this week’s recap. This Week at Council: Strategic Plan Workshop and Committee Business
This past week, 2023 really started, at least in terms of council business. In the first two meetings of the year this past Tuesday, the new council discussed the intricacies of the 2019-2023 Strategic Plan as a way to set up council’s future debates about the new version of the plan. After that, the horseshoe dispatched a relatively brief Committee of the Whole agenda, the first one they’ve dealt with in a while. Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the January 10 Meeting?
We haven’t had a Committee of the Whole meeting since July 2022, and while the council year will not technically begin with CoW as the first meeting of 2023 (see the separate preview for the workshop meeting scheduled for the morning of January 10), there are still be a couple of key decisions that need approval. It’s the perfect way to ease the horseshoe into what likely will be a very busy and productive year.
