This November meeting of the Heritage Advisory Committee will look to the future in some key ways. There’s not a lot in new heritage designations, but there will be some discussion of future designations, and some discussion about a future Official Plan amendment and its impacts on heritage work, a potential demolition of a (sorta) heritage asset and a mistake made in the minutes of a previous meeting. Let’s get into the preview… Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Advisory Committee Meeting for November 6, 2025”

As the weather cools, people across town are looking for indoor activities to fill their spare time, and there’s always some activity to do indoors at the Guelph Public Library! And if it’s the last Monday of the month, then you know what activity is going down, and that’s the monthly Library Board of Directors meeting. What should you expect if you pop by in-person or tune-in virtually? Let’s check out the preview… Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for October 27, 2025”
MEETING PREVIEW: Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee Meeting for October 8, 2025
It looks like a slow month at the Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee with reports concerning finances, an update about progress on Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care System, aka: $10 per day childcare, and a special request from the Mayor of Guelph. Let us now look ahead to another Wednesday afternoon in the Guthrie Room (no relation) at that castle-looking building on Woolwich Street. MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Advisory Committee Meeting for October 2, 2025
There’s not as much action at October’s Heritage Advisory Committee as you might expect as we’re counting down to the deletion of all properties listed on the heritage registry. Still, one proposed designation has made the cut for discussion while a property owner living in the city’s one current heritage district wants to make some changes. Let’s dig into the brief agenda for this month’s heritage brief. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Advisory Committee Meeting for October 2, 2025”

MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Advisory Committee Meeting for July 3, 2025
No summer break for the Heritage Advisory Committee, at least not yet. Before getting an August break, your local heritage protection committee will tackle a couple of items, including a pretty major one; it’s time to bone up on your Official Plan policy, at least so far as protecting cultural heritage goes! Plus, there are at least a couple of new designations warming up in the bullpen, which is a warm-up for a tonne of work coming in the fall. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Advisory Committee Meeting for July 3, 2025”
MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for April 15, 2025
Of all the shake-ups at the Advisory Committees of Council, this might be the most shook up. Although the Accessibility Advisory Committee is perhaps the least altered, it was the subject of controversy last April when most of the committee, including the chair, vice-chair, and former vice-chair, all resigned after staff refused to grant the AAC the increased autonomy they were seeking. Now, they will start again. Build back better? I guess we will see… Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for April 15, 2025”

MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Advisory Committee Meeting for June 5, 2025
New name, old committee. As previously reported, there weren’t many changes made to the operation of Heritage Guelph, but since this is kind of the first meeting of a new committee, we take a break from the seemingly non-stop series of designations these last few months and get into some orientation. Sit back, relax, and get ready to learn all about this new Heritage Advisory Committee from the basement to the rafters! Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Advisory Committee Meeting for June 5, 2025”
MEETING PREVIEW: Board of Health Meeting for June 4, 2025
It’s one last ride for the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Board of Health before they take their usual summer break, but despite the pending time off this is going to be an unusually laidback agenda. There are some pretty important updates though about the loss of harm reduction services downtown, and the annual community report about the overall work of the unit, but to learn more about the agenda, scroll through the preview below. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Board of Health Meeting for June 4, 2025”
