Fraud
Police are still receiving reports of a scam targeting cellphone customers. Victims report receiving calls offering a special deal and being asked to verify their identity or upload identification through a link. In some cases, victims are directed to order a phone from their legitimate provider. They later receive a call claiming the wrong device was shipped and are provided a prepaid label to return it. The phone is instead sent to the scammer, leaving the victim responsible for the cost. Police are reminding residents to be cautious of unsolicited calls offering loyalty rewards, seniors’ discounts or special deals on new devices.
