There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
At 3:50 pm on Wednesday, employees of a business on Silvercreek Parkway North reported a man had left the business with a shopping cart full of groceries, and when an employee tried to stop him the suspect struck the employee with the cart and threatened to stab staff members. No physical injuries were reported and no weapon was seen. The man was described as white, in his 30s, 5’10,” thin with brown hair. He was wearing a grey hoodie and jeans. He was accompanied by a woman described as white with red hair to her waist and wearing a red sweater and black pants. On April 28, the Waterloo Regional Police Service commenced a criminal investigation involving a 15-year civilian employee of the Guelph Police Service, and they were arrested on May 31 for robbery and assault with a weapon in relation to a non-work-related incident. Immediately following his arrest, the employee was suspended pending a comprehensive internal investigation and now they’re no longer employed with the Guelph Police Service.
A 50-year-old Guelph man was arrested for assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and breach of probation on Tuesday afternoon for an incident last week. The victim reported he was playing video games inside his supportive housing residence when another man began threatening him. He unsheathed a knife and held it to the victim’s throat and groin before walking away.
A 26-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose early Sunday morning after police were called to Gordon and Waterloo. Two men were reportedly involved in an argument when one removed a hammer from his backpack and began swinging it, striking the other man a number of times. The victim complained of minor defensive injuries but declined medical attention.
Break-Ins
A 42-year-old Guelph man was charged with break and enter, disguise with intent and theft under $5,000 last Friday night. A man was caught on video walking past the Wilson Street Parkade carrying a long metal pole. He tied a shirt over his face to conceal his identity before entering the parkade and used the pole to break open a bicycle storage room. He removed a bicycle and fled the area.
Drugs
A 66-year-old Guelph man was charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking on Monday morning after police responded to reports of a man meeting with individuals and receiving payment in exchange for suspected controlled substances. Officers arrived and arrested the man, and during a search recovered several unlabeled pill bottles containing suspected Dilaudid and Percocet, two prescription opioids. They also located a scale and more than $600 in cash.
Impaired Driving
A 63-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and careless driving Wednesday night after police were called to an address near Metcalfe and Kensington where they found a pick-up had struck a parked SUV. Tests revealed that the driver had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
A 59-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired operation and possessing a controlled substance early on Tuesday morning. Officers were dealing with an unrelated call at a south-end townhouse complex when they saw the man unconscious in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle. Officers noticed a white powdered substance near the man’s lip and could see two baggies of suspected cocaine inside the car. A further search of the vehicle revealed an empty alcohol bottle behind the driver’s seat.
A 21-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, disobeying a stop sign, making an improper turn and other driving offences early last Saturday morning. An officer observed a vehicle mounting a curb at Wellington and Wyndham and was then seen driving through a stop sign before stopping next to a large group of pedestrians before revving the engine and causing the tires to squeal. He failed a roadside breath test.
Theft
On Thursday evening, approximately $9,000 in tools in multiple toolboxes in the bed of a truck, were removed and rummaged through at an east end residence. A large amount of Dewalt and Hilti were taken and damage was done to the truck. When the owner of south end business arrived at work Thursday at 8:30 am, they found a woman who had a large pile of potted plants loaded onto a cart. The woman said she had planned to purchase the products, leaving the business to go get cash, but after she was gone it was discovered that approximately $2,000 to $5,000 in products had been taken. The woman is described as mid 60s with brown hair, white and wearing a puffy black Spyder jacket, blue jeans and running shoes. Last Friday morning, an east-end resident reported she was gardening in her front yard when a white SUV stopped and a female passenger called the victim over before grabbing her hand and starting to pray in another language. During the interaction the passenger put a necklace, bracelet and rings on the victim. When the parties left, the victim noticed her own gold necklace and bracelet were missing. The suspects were described as a possibly Indian man and woman in their 40s, both wearing white with the female passenger wearing a white hijab. Last week, police responded to at least 15 reports of thefts from vehicles. In five of those cases wallets or loose credit and debit cards were among the items stolen and in all five instances cards were later used to make a series of purchases and withdrawals requiring further investigation. Residents are urged to keep vehicle windows and doors closed and locked when unattended, and do not leave valuables inside. Also, please report suspicious activity around homes and unattended vehicles.
Theft (Auto)
Five Honda SUVs were stolen from the east end within a few hours of each other on Wednesday. At 3:30 am a white 2024 Honda CR-V was taken from a driveway near Eastview and Victoria and was found abandoned a short distance away with damage to the rear end and side window. Then, at 6:25 am, a white 2025 CR-V was taken from Watson and Fleming and later recovered with some damage in a parking lot on Auden Road. Five minute, another white 2025 CR-V was reported stolen from a driveway overnight near Grange and Starwood, followed by a report of a silver 2025 CR-V being take stolen from the parking lot of a condo near Grange and Auden. Then, at 11 am, a resident near Grange and Bradson reported his grey 2026 Acura MDX had been stolen. Security video showed two individuals climbing onto the vehicle and smashing the sunroof to gain entry. All of the thefts remain under investigation. but it is not known if they are related. Just before 9 am on Tuesday police were called to the area of Paisley and Stephanie where a man reported he was visiting Guelph and had parked his rented black Volvo XC6 on the street Monday night. When he went outside Tuesday morning it was gone. The incident remain under investigation.
