POLICE NOTES: E-bikes Taken, Drive-Thru Confrontation, and Stolen Car Crashed

There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault

A restaurant employee was working at a drive-thru window when a man who was not purchasing anything asked for a quantity of empty cups for free. The employee said that they were not permitted to provide free cups, at which point the man started calling the employee names and spat on them before driving away. The man is described as black, with long dreadlocks with blond tips, driving a grey subcompact crossover SUV. The restaurant is located in the area of Silvercreek and Speedvale. A 47-year-old man was charged with failing to leave, engaging in a prohibited activity, assaulting a police officer, attempting to disarm a police officer and resisting arrest on Thursday morning after he ignored repeated requests to leave a downtown restaurant. Officers attempted to escort him from the building, but once outside, a struggle occurred and an officer sustained a minor injury as a result.


A 17-year-old Guelph girl was charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a prohibited weapon and administering a noxious substance on Friday afternoon after police were called to an address near Woolwich and Norfolk where a man had been sprayed in the face.


A 39-year-old Guelph man was charged with sexual assault and two counts of breaching a probation order after an employee of a downtown business said she was working when a man touched her inappropriately before walking away on Saturday night.

Break-Ins

A 29-year-old Guelph man was charged with attempted break and enter, breaching probation and failing to leave a property when directed early Saturday on Dublin Street North. The owners said a man knocked on their door and asked if he could have some furniture which had been left outside. When he was told he could not the man became angry and confrontational. He tried to gain entry by punching through a screen and pulling the storm door hard enough to break the handle.

Impaired Driving

A 28-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired operation last Saturday night after police were called about a possible impaired driver in the area of Tovell and Westra. Officers arrived to find a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a car and observed several empty alcohol containers in the back seat area. He was showing signs of impairment and handed officers a piece of paper when asked for his licence.

Theft

Police looking for a woman accused of leaving a business at Imperial and Paisley without paying for merchandise on Thursday at approximately 2:40 pm. The suspect is described as female, 50 to 60 yrs old, medium build, 5’4”, 160 lbs, blue eyes, dyed black hair wearing a black hoodie, black vest, dark jeans, flip flops and a blue/grey ballcap with Cancun in yellow writing on the front. An Etobicoke resident reported that their e-bike had been stolen at Riverside Park Tuesday around noon. The individual had parked their e-bike and entered the washroom facility at the park. When they returned, their e-bike with all contents had been stolen. The e-bike is described as metallic blue with a rear flat carrier and saddlebag.


On Tuesday morning, two e-bikes along with multiple batteries and chargers were stolen from the garage of a home near Speedvale and Edinburgh. The resident noticed their garbage bins had been moved when they returned home Monday evening, but they didn’t notice the missing items until Tuesday morning. On Tuesday afternoon around 4:30 pm, a Guelph resident was approached by a man and two women in the Willow Road and Silvercreek Parkway area. The three individuals distracted the complainant by showing them some other jewelry while they proceeded to steal a gold necklace.

Theft (Auto)

A white 2025 King Ranch Ford F-150 with a two-toned grey bottom that had been parked in the driveway of their south-end Guelph home as taken sometime between Sunday evening and Monday morning. The truck also contained some personal items including golf equipment and accessories. Just after 4 am on Sunday, police officers were patrolling on Victoria near Stone when they located a 2025 Honda CRV which had left the road and struck a pole causing extensive damage. Officers contacted the owner, who said the vehicle was in the parking lot of her east-end residence when she went to bed around 10 pm.
