There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 35-year-old Guelph man was arrested for assault, mischief under $5,000 and theft after a family dispute at a north-end residence Wednesday evening. He was transported to the police station, where he became aggressive with officers in the cellblock area and struck three officers. None of the officers were injured. As a result the man was further charged with three counts of assaulting police.
A 40-year-old Guelph man was charged with assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm on Wednesday afternoon after officers dealing with a man involved in a fight bit an officer on the thigh, breaking the skin while trying to break up the fight. The officer was transported to hospital for treatment.
Break-Ins
Officers were called to an address near Kortright and Ironwood Wednesday after the owner said he had gone out about 11:15 am and then came home four hours later to find a side window smashed. Several areas inside the home had been disturbed and property including a safe and laptop were reported missing. Drugs
On Monday, a 66-year-old Guelph man was arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking and breaching a probation order after police were called to a north-end seniors’ residence to assist the sheriff in evicting a tenant, who had caused a large amount of damage to the apartment. A package with more than 100 grams of purple fentanyl, which had an estimated street value of $20,000, was found in the kitchen wall.
A 58-year-old Kitchener man was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of driving while prohibited and two counts of driving while suspended after a traffic stop last Saturday night. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver said the vehicle didn’t belong to him so he couldn’t provide paperwork. Investigation revealed the driver is bound by six driving prohibitions, so he was placed under arrest and then a search revealed several individual packages of cocaine as well as nearly $1,400 in cash.
Fraud
At approximately 5 pm on Monday, a man in his 80s was in a plaza near Eramosa and Stevenson when he was approached by a young woman who said she was trying to pay for a taxi but the driver wouldn’t accept cash. The victim was asked to pay the fare in exchange for $20 cash and agreed to do so, but he later discovered that he was handed someone else’s debit card and the suspects had kept his, which was used to make $3,600 in withdrawals and purchases. The woman was described as white, late teens or early 20s, 5’7” with black hair. The driver was a white man in his 30s with a heavy build. They were driving a dark-coloured vehicle. Impaired Driving
A 36-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation, driving with open alcohol, driving with an obstructed licence plate and failing to provide proof of insurance after a traffic stop early Thursday near Wellington and Edinburgh. Officers saw a car driving erratically and pulled it over.
A 64-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving after a vehicle was found in the driveway of a south-end home with the owner still behind the wheel. Officers spoke to him and immediately noted a strong odour of alcohol on his breath, and tests revealed that he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Theft
On Tuesday, a woman was walking in the area of Gordon and Monticello when she observed two women in a vehicle who appeared to be in distress. The victim stopped to check on the women, who touched her hands and neck area. When the victim got home she noticed two gold necklaces were missing. The women were described as possibly Indian or Asian. The driver was in her 50s and the passenger was possibly a teenager. They were driving a red vehicle.
On Tuesday, a Hamilton man reported the theft of his tools – including saws, drills, a nail gun and toolboxes — from a site near Arkell and Victoria; in all more than $10,000 worth of tools were stolen from the construction site. Theft (Auto)
At approximately 5 pm last Saturday, police were called to an address near Auden and Eastview where a man was visiting a friend and awoke to find his Kia Rondo missing. The car was located by police just after 7:30 pm in a parking lot on Willow Road and seized for further examination. Traffic
Just before 2:30 pm last Friday, emergency services were called to Woodlawn and the Hanlon for a three-vehicle collision. A portion of Woodlawn Road West was closed for nearly an hour for the investigation. An occupant from one of the vehicles was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has dashcam footage, and has not yet spoken to police is asked to email Constable Lindsay Porterfield of the Traffic Unit at lporterfield [at] guelphpolice.ca.
A 21-year-old Cambridge man was charged with driving while suspended and failing to have an insurance card after a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon. A patrol car’s automated licence plate reader detected a vehicle associated to a suspended driver and it was pulled over.
A 38-year-old Puslinch man was charged with stunt driving, speeding and failing to provide his driver’s licence after clocking a black Jeep traveling at 112 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone along Woodlawn Road West.
Other Notes
A 37-year-old Guelph woman was charged with arson, mischief under $5,000 and breaching a probation order after four fires were set in a garden area in front of the Basilica or Our Lady.
