City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?

Time to get back to work! For the first time in a couple of years, we actually had a whole month off in August, but now the time has come to return to the council chambers and see what trouble we can get into. So to speak. First up, a blast from the not-too-distant past, a planning project that came to council in July and was approved by council, but there was an unexpected procedural issue that must now be resolved. Details below.

NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to register with the clerks office before 10 am on Friday August 29. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.

NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.

NOTE #3: This meeting takes place at the special time of 1 pm, and will be immediately followed by September’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

Public and Decision Meeting: 343 Waterloo Avenue, Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments, Ward 3 – You may recall that there was an item added to the regular council meeting in July, a directive from Mayor Cam Guthrie using his Strong Mayor Powers. A commercial building was destroyed by fire last year, and its owners want to redevelop the property and make it a four-storey mixed-use building with nine residential units, two of them being definitionally affordable. Council approved the development, but there was a hiccup: As reported in Guelph Today, there was a procedural snafu because the meeting started an hour earlier than what was indicated on the planning page on the City’s website. What does that mean? It’s time for a do-over.
