POLICE NOTES: Vandalism, Drug Busts, and Cosmetic and Perfume Heists

There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault

A 42-year-old Guelph man was arrested for assault and two counts of breach probation, and a 28-year-old Cambridge man was arrested for assault and breach probation after getting into a verbal argument Thursday afternoon at a restaurant in the area of Gordon and Wellington.

Break-Ins

A 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman from Guelph for a couple incidents around town including one on June 29 when they were caught on video surveillance entering a building on Waterloo Avenue where they tried to gain access to a locked storage room, causing damage. Then, on Thursday, they tried to steal power tools at north end store.

Drugs

A 30-year-old Brampton man and a 27-year-old Mississauga man have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking after the traffic stop at Woolwich and Speedvale Monday resulted in the discovery of 34 Dilaudid pills and $5,155 in Canadian currency.


A 21-year-old Brampton man has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and fail to comply with a judicial release last week after we was observed doing drug deals downtown. A search revealed 33.58 grams of Fentanyl, and 23.74 grams of cocaine, plus $1,130 in Canadian currency.

Impaired Driving

A Guelph man was charged with operation while impaired on Tuesday evening after police were called to a business on Scottsdale about a possible drunk driver.


A 25-year-old Toronto man has been charged with operation while impaired, fail to stop after an accident, drive vehicle with cannabis readily available, and driver fail to properly wear seat belt after an accident near Clairfields and Gordon last Thursday. The suspect rear-ended one car, and then attempted to leave the scene by swerving his vehicle around the other vehicle at a high rate of speed before losing control and striking a light post head on.


A 32-year-old Guelph man was charged with operation while impaired and possess more than one licence after police responded to a report of a man sleeping inside a car parked in a commercial lot near Woodlawn and Imperial.


A 49-year-old Windsor man was charged with operation while impaired and unsafe move – lane after driving straight through a turn lane at a downtown intersection.

Theft

Police are looking for a pair of men who stole $2,800 in perfume from a Clair Road business at around 6:30 pm on Wednesday. The first suspect is 6’2”, 150lbs, thin build, late teen-20s, wearing a black hat, black glasses, a brown tracksuit, a sweater that says “essentials”, a side bag – black strap beige/black, and the second is 5’5” 120lbs, thin build, late teen-20s, having short dreadlocks, wearing a purple hat, black tracksuit, and a black side bag. On Monday evening, a white cube van and a white Ford F-150 were seen entering the property of the business on Southgate, and three men were seen taking a transformer and scrap metals from a storage area valued at over $1,000. A couple stole $440 worth of bedding from a Clair Road business at 1:10 pm on Tuesday after pretending that it was merchandise that they bought from another store. They were seen driving a new model, a silver Dodge Ram pickup truck. Approximately $1,800 in Lancôme skincare and Nar’s make-up was stolen from a Clair Road business at 7:30 pm on Tuesday. The male suspect is described as 120-150lbs, thin build, 5’11-6’0, approximately 20 years old, black hair, stubble beard, brown eyes, neck tattoos, wearing black shorts, black zip-up hoodie with green stripes, white shirt, and a brown hat. The female suspect is described as 140lbs, 5’6-5’8, thin build, blonde hair with black roots, wearing a black sweater, black pants, and black shoes with 3 white stripes on the shoes. A 23-year-old Mississauga male has been charged with four counts of theft under $5,000 and 12 counts of fail to comply with probation for a series of thefts in Guelph stores, including two in April and two in June.

Traffic

A truck was hit while parked in the driveway of a residence near the intersection of Brant and Victoria sometime between 12 am and 12 pm on Sunday. A hydro pole was also damaged in the collision. Investigation revealed that the responsible vehicle is a charcoal grey Toyota motor vehicle. A 38-year-old man is facing 30 criminal charges, and a 36-year-old woman is also facing four criminal charges after a two-month investigation by the Break Enter Auto Theft Unit. Both were charged with driving while under suspension, property obtained by crime over $5000, and property obtained by crime under $5,000, while the man was also charged with 25 counts of operation while prohibited.

Other Notes

Police identified a man on video surveillance who vandalizing artwork displayed on pillars outside a downtown business. The man was seen writing on the artwork with a permanent marker, the same ma who had similarly damaged property, approximately a month earlier as well.
