The City of Guelph, and it’s various partners and agencies, put out a lot of information on a weekly basis, and while it all ends up on the City’s website somewhere, wouldn’t it be easier to just scroll through it all on one easy-to-read article on Guelph Politico here…?
Ontario Invests in U of G’s Artificial Intelligence Lab
The University of Guelph’s Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI) received $500,000 to launch a new micro-learning platform for high school and post-secondary students to spark interest in AI and machine learning in the automotive and mobility sectors. The money was made available from the Regional Future Workforce (RFW) program and the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) at the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI).
The new program is meant to generating interest in future careers in the automotive industry, areas like the commercialization and adoption of the next generation of electric, connected and autonomous vehicles and mobility technologies that contribute to a lower environmental and carbon footprint. CARE-AI is one of the facilities creating eight-month-long automotive-focused programs for at least 500 students. Each program is designed to address the unique needs of the region and the ages of the students. Programs can range from play-based learning for young children, to manufacturing, robotics and mining workshops for older students.
“We’re encouraged and grateful for this announcement and the investment by the Government of Ontario through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network,” said Kevin Matsui, managing director of CARE-AI in a statement. “We look forward to providing the skills training in artificial intelligence and machine learning necessary for a thriving automotive and mobility industry in the province.”
