There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 15-year-old Guelph male and 12-year-old Guelph male were each charged with assault and theft after two incidents on March 9 when two different 13-year-old males were accosted for money in the area of Willow and Dawson. One of the males was pushed against the window and then slapped in the head by both suspects when he broke free.
A 19-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and assault with a weapon after an incident last Friday afternoon that put Our Lady of Lourdes School into a hold and secure. An altercation between two men saw one man brandished a knife and then use a tree limb to strike the other man, causing minor injuries.
Break-Ins
Someone smashed a window to gain entry to a business on Silvercreek near Speedvale and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. The break-in was discovered before 10 am on Sunday morning. A 38-year-old Guelph man and 21-year-old Guelph woman were charged with break and enter after a break-in at a downtown business at 5 am on Tuesday. Three laptops were taken, but they were returned to the victim.
A 25-year-old Guelph man already charged in connection to break-ins at 10 other Guelph business now faces additional counts for an eleventh including break and enter, disguise with intent and possessing stolen property. These newest charges are in connection to a March 11 break-in at an Edinburgh South business. The suspect arrived at the business riding a gas-powered scooter that had been stolen from the same business the day before, threw a tree stump through a window and stole a small amount of cash.
Drugs
A 25-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, three counts of possessing a controlled substance, driving while prohibited and two counts of breaching probation. The suspect had driven a stolen 2021 Dodge Challenger to Guelph from Flamborough on Monday morning and took a flat behind a commercial plaza on Eramosa. A search of the suspect revealed small amounts of suspected meth, fentanyl and psilocybin, as well as several credit cards and identification in various names.
A 19-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing a controlled substance, escaping lawful custody and uttering threats after police were called to a business at Gordon and Wellington late last Friday afternoon. Two men were involved in an argument when one of them made a reference to having a weapon. Police caught up with this man later and he was found to have a black BB gun and a small amount of suspected fentanyl.
Fraud

Impaired Driving
A 37-year-old Cambridge man was charged with impaired driving and driving while prohibited, and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days after an officer enroute to an unrelated matter on Wellington Street at Gordon noticed that the vehicle in front of him wasn’t responding to the emergency lights or horn. When the man was taken to police headquarters and tested, it was discovered he had four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Theft
Guelph Police are investigating a robbery late on Thursday at Clair and Gordon. Three men approached a female victim as she got into her car and tried to force her out, and though they were unsuccessful, they were able to take her cell phone and wallet. The suspects are described as three black males. One was wearing a black track suit, one was wearing a white track suit and the third was wearing black and white. Police are looking for three suspects who stole $3,400 in perfume from a business at Stone and Scottsdale last Saturday evening at 6:15 pm. The first suspect is female and described as possibly Middle Eastern, 30s, with dark shoulder-length hair and wearing a white sweater and long dress. The second suspect is female, possibly Indian, late 20s with long black hair and black clothing. The man they were with was described as possibly Middle Eastern, heavy set with black hair and a beard and wearing a blue winter jacket and black shirt. A 17-year-old Mississauga man was charged with robbery with a firearm, robbery and failing to comply with an undertaking in connection with a serious of robberies where the items were listed for sale online, and at least one of those incidents allegedly involved a firearm. A 20-year-old Brampton man was previously arrested on February 9 for the same string of robberies.
Two youths were arrested later Tuesday night with a 13-year-old male being charged with robbery, plus a 16-year-old male who was charged with robbery and failing to comply with a release order. A 12-year-old male was outside a business on Macdonell Street when he was approached by the two older males who threatened the victim while forcefully removing his Nike jacket, which had cash in the pocket.
A 25-year-old Guelph man and 25-year-old Guelph woman face charges including theft of a motor vehicle, possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing stolen property under $5,000, possessing identity documents and driving while prohibited. Members of the Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit executed a search warrant Tuesday at an apartment on Christopher Court and found more than two dozen credit cards, 100 pieces of mail and 14 pieces of identification in various names. Two stolen vehicles were also recovered during the investigation.
Three Toronto-area males aged 24, 26 and 30 are charged with theft under $5,000 and possessing stolen property on Sunday after police checked the licence plate of a car on Woodlawn Road and found that it did not match the car. A large number of stolen Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh playing cards were discovered in the car, some with the store stickers still attached. The driver was also charged with driving while suspended and using unauthorized licence plates.
Traffic
Six drivers were taken off the road last weekend, including a 19-year-old Guelph man stopped near Wellington and Fife last Saturday at 10 am after he was clocked doing 140 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone. Drivers charged with stunt driving face an immediate 30-day driver’s licence suspension and 14-day vehicle impound, even if the vehicle is not theirs.
Other Notes
A 38-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing child pornography, making child pornography available and accessing child pornography after a search warrant was executed on an apartment in the west end on February 7. Members of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit and Technological Crimes Unit were involved in the search and a number of devices were seized for further investigation.
The Guelph Fire Department with the assistance of the Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating a fire on Brant Avenue on Sunday; one man suffered burns and smoke inhalation, and was transported to hospital by ambulance and is still receiving medical care.
