There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 41-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault, assault with a weapon and breaching probation after an argument about rent money between two roommates got physical. One roommate punched the other in the face at a Paisley Road business before leaving and then the argument continued at home where suspect swung a small baseball bat at the other roommate, but it did not make contact. Still, the victim was treated by paramedics for facial swelling and a possible concussion.

Drugs
A Guelph man was arrested and charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, being an occupant in a stolen motor vehicle and two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking. In April 2022, a stolen Jeep Wrangler was found in a parking lot on Woodlawn Road West, which held a large amount of suspected fentanyl and crystal meth valued at approximately $17,000. The suspected was matched with DNA collected from the car.
Fraud
A 34-year-old Gravenhurst man was charged with five counts of fraud under $5,000 for a snow clearing scheme in Guelph last November. Five Guelph residents answered an online ad offering snow-clearing services, and paid a more than $4,000 for the service between them. The man was arrested after being picked up by another police service in another jurisdiction.
Impaired Driving
A 60-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days after police stopped him leaving a licensed establishment on Silvercreek Parkway North on Wednesday night.
A 46-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days after a traffic stop conducted at 2:30 am on Water Street Wednesday morning. A test conducted at police headquarters showed that the driver had almost three times the legal limit of alcohol in their system.
A 52-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving last Friday in the area of Speedvale and Kathleen after officers located a vehicle backed into a driveway that had collided with a retaining wall and had fresh damage.
A 36-year-old Guelph man was showing signs of impairment and was arrested Saturday morning after an on-duty firefighter came across a collision at Arthur and Elizabeth where a car had mounted the curb, and damaging the front wheel and bumper.
A 38-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and speeding after a vehicle blew past a police patrol on Wellington Street West last Saturday night doing 93 kilometres per hour in a posted 60 zone. The man’s wife and small child were also in the car.
A 60-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, obstructing police, driving while prohibited, failing to slow down for a stopped emergency vehicle and failing to stop when directed to do so on Monday night near Speedvale and Eramosa. A GMC Terrain had to be pulled over twice and provided several false names despite his apparent inebriated state. A search of the vehicle revealed three empty and one part-full cans of beer, and it was further discovered that he was unlicensed due to a previous impaired driving conviction. His driver’s licence was also suspended for 90 days too.
Theft
Approximately $20,000 worth of tools were stolen from a construction site near Quarterman Road and Cooper Drive. The tools were taken from several different places around the site, and the theft was discovered Tuesday morning. Two different vehicles were stolen within 90 minutes of each other last Friday night. A white 2010 Kia Rondo belonging to a delivery driver was stolen from out front of a Silvercreek North business at 8:45 pm after they went inside and left the car running. Then, at 10:15 pm, a white 2015 Honda Civic was stolen after the driver left it running outside a restaurant on Macdonell Street. A 31-year-old Guelph man was charged with occupying a stolen motor vehicle and breaching probation near Willow West Mall on Tuesday. The man’s DNA was matched to a stolen Hyundai Accent found on Willow Road back on December 6.
A 36-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, occupying a stolen motor vehicle, flight from police, two counts of failing to remain at a collision, several counts of driving while disqualified and two counts of breaching a bail order. On March 24, a man in a stolen car rammed two police cruisers after officers identified the vehicle as stolen and tried to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Woodlawn and Montana. The Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit found the stolen vehicle at an address outside Guelph on Wednesday.
Traffic
Police are investigating a collision last Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Kortright and Edinburgh. A 33-year-old Guelph man who was on a motorcycle sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries to his lower body and was transported to a Hamilton trauma centre. The driver of the sedan, a 26-year-old Cambridge woman, was not physically injured.
Police are looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed a collision on Monday morning or who may have dashcam footage of the incident. At 6:40 am, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at Silvercreek Parkway North and Campbell Road. The female victim was taken to the hospital for leg injuries. A 51-year-old Kitchener man was charged with dangerous driving and two counts of possessing a controlled substance after noon on Thursday. Police spotted a man driving at a high rate of speed on Victoria Road North, swerving into northbound lanes to get a head of southbound traffic. Police found small amounts of suspected fentanyl and meth on the driver once they stopped him.
A 55-year-old Guelph man was charged with careless driving after rear-ending a Guelph Transit bus on Willow near Marksam Monday afternoon.
Other Notes
A 25-year-old Guelph man was charged with two counts of failing to appear in court, possessing stolen property and possessing a controlled substance after he was spotted by police downtown on Thursday. Police knew the man was wanted for missing two September court dates, and when they searched him they found stolen property from a downtown business and a small amount of suspected fentanyl.
A Guelph man who twice missed a court date on outstanding weapons charges from November was arrested and held in custody to ensure the he makes his next court date on Tuesday. He was spotted by officers downtown on Monday morning.
A 35-year-old Guelph man was charged with failing to attend court, possessing a controlled substance and possessing stolen property after police stopped him in the area of Woolwich and Speedvale Tuesday after they identified him as someone wanted on an outstanding warrant. A small amount of suspected methamphetamine and several pieces of identification which had previously been reported stolen were found in a search.
