POLICE NOTES: More Charges in Bullfrog Stabbing, and Witnesses Need for 2022 Arrest

There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault

A 16-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon and assault, and a second 16-year-old Guelph man charged with assault causing bodily harm and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection to a stabbing at Bullfrog Mall last week. This is in addition to the 18-year-old man who was previously charged.

A 30-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering death threats and failing to comply with a release order on Wednesday afternoon after police were called to a business on Woolwich near Speedvale. The suspect pointed a laser point at two men doing work at the business, and when they got out of the vehicle to confront him, they pulled a knife, pointed it at them, and made threats.

Break-Ins

Police are looking for a white male wearing a blue jacket with the hood up, dark blue track pants, black shoes and a black balaclava who broke into an apartment building on Waterloo last Saturday night at 11:30 pm. Police were called to a business on Silvercreek North on Monday morning after it was broken into sometime overnight; a laptop, cash and a power saw were reported missing. The suspect was captured on video surveillance and is described as a male in his 20s to 40s wearing a black jacket, grey pants, a blue mask and gloves and carrying a black bag. Police were called to a business at Alma and Inkerman after midnight on Sunday where they found the front window was smashed and the entry area ransacked. A cash box containing cash was reported stolen. The suspect is described as a male wearing a black hoodie, black Adidas sweatpants, black shoes, black gloves, a black hat and a mask and carrying a black duffle bag. Fraud

Theft

Police are looking for a white male, 5’10” with a medium build,  wearing a black Reebok sweater with white writing, a red undershirt, black pants, black shoes, a mask and sunglasses for robbing a store at Edinburgh and College at knife point at 6:40 pm on Thursday evening. The suspect made away with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last scene running south on Edinburgh. A 37-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing stolen property, trafficking in stolen property and breach of probation. The Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit ran a sting on someone selling stolen property online by arranging to buy a cellphone reported stolen in December at a commercial plaza on Willow Tuesday night.


A 27-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, failing to remain at a collision, obstructing police, possessing stolen property over $5,000 and mischief over $5,000. A vehicle had gone off the road, striking a wooden patio and tearing it off before colliding with a second home in the area of Cork and Norfolk early last Saturday morning. The car involved in the crash has previously been stolen from an Elizabeth Street address.

Traffic

Police are looking for a vehicle that left the road at York near Morris and struck the porch of a home sometime overnight between 10 pm Wednesday and 6 am Thursday. The vehicle, believed to be a Toyota, will likely have front-end damage. There was also minor damage to the porch. Guelph Police are looking for a silver SUV (see below) that was involved in a a hit and run with a pedestrian last week. The incident happened at 4:30 pm on February 13 at the intersection of Victoria and Woodlawn where an 11-year-old girl was clipped by the vehicle and sustained minor injuries. The vehicle did not stop and was last seen southbound on Victoria Road. A 54-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired driving, and his driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days after they were reported by a Gordon Street business as being possibly impaired.


An 18-year-old Waterloo man was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and then charged with careless driving after colliding with a snow plow early on Friday morning at Elmira and Malcolm. The collision was so bad it partially tore the roof the car (see above).


A 65-year-old Guelph woman was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and driving while suspended, and her driver’s licence was further suspended for 90 days after a disturbance in the area of Arthur and Elizabeth. When the woman returned to the scene a short time later, police arrived in time to see her drive away. She had the smell of alcohol on her breath, but she refused several times to provide a breath sample.


A 24-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving after a witness observed a man unsteady on his feet trying to enter a vehicle at a plaza on Gordon at Kortright early Sunday morning.


Also early Sunday morning, a 28-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving after a witness saw a man exiting a vehicle and urinating on the wall of a business. Officers arrived and found the man slumped over inside the vehicle with a heavy odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath.


A 32-year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged with impaired driving and speeding after failing a roadside breath test. He was picked up on Wellington Street West doing 93 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone.

Other Notes

Police are seeking witnesses to an impaired driving incident from last October. On October 29 at 10:45 pm, police were called to a disturbance outside a business at Woodlawn and Victoria. Investigation revealed a man was detained by several individuals and held for police after cutting off other vehicles.
