Normally, the second Tuesday of the month is reserved for the monthly planning meeting of city council, but this month, the second Tuesday will feature a workshop that should hopefully help council make better planning decisions. This week, council will hear about the planning processes and the potential impacts in a couple of key areas that frequently come up in the course of planning meetings.
NOTE #1: This is a council workshop, so there will be no delegates for this meeting.
NOTE #2: The meeting will be closed to the public, though it will be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.
Land Use Planning: Council Strategic Education Workshop – This meeting is being held with the intention of giving council some education and background about how the planning process works, and their role in making planning decisions in Guelph as a council. Seems pretty straightforward, but there’s a lot of nuance, and council will spend some time talking about some of those nuances, specifically affordable housing, the Community Energy Initiative, and parking. They will also cover the planning process from pre-consultation between developers and staff to the points council is able to offer their input, and the potential ramifications after council’s decision has been made. The workshop is currently scheduled for about two hours in length.
