MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for May 27, 2024

You’ve made it to the end of May, which means that you’ve made it to the monthly Guelph Public Library Board of Directors meeting. All hands will be there at the community space on the second floor of the main library to talk about the usual slate of issues like the budget, library use and the new building update, but there’s some other stuff in the works this month about the whole library system and the under appreciated services of the library.

NOTE #1: This meeting will take place in Programming Room at the Main Library on Norfolk Street, but you can also watch it on video via Cisco Webex. (Find the link on the library board’s webpage.)

NOTE #2: The meeting begins at 6 pm and is expected to wrap up around 8 pm.

NOTE #3: The Library does not make the complete agenda with reports available to the public, only the point form agenda.

Consent Agenda – To begin with, there’s the usual slate of reports including the (acting) CEO’s report, the service utilization and capacity scorecards, the operating variance, and the updated milestones for the construction of the new main library building. There’s also a new report, one about the current main library building at 100 Norfolk Street, which is labelled “preliminary report”.

Presentations & Reports – There are a couple of interesting sounding reports in this portion. One is the Facilities Master Plan, which will look at the whole library system and what it will need in the years to come, and another is about harm reduction at the main library, which, as you know, is an ad hoc social services agency downtown. There will also be a presentation called “Committee Projects Submissions ($25,000+)” but there’s no motion attached to the agenda.

CLOSED MEETING:

The board will meet in closed on one item under the topic of “labour relations or employee negotiations.”
