This week council took a couple of tough meetings. On Tuesday, there was a question about homelessness downtown, but the controversial motion proposed by Mayor Cam Guthrie had been pulled. Still, there’s was a matter of funding for Royal City Mission and their daytime shelter services, council had to decided how and if they were going to fund that further. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the December 5 Meetings?
Two big meetings back-to-back, united in the fact that there’s only one issue on each of their agendas. The final Committee of the Whole meeting of 2023 will actually look ahead to next year with a brief report, and after that, council will look to the past. Sort of. That Official Plan Amendment that was approved, sent to the Ontario government, rewritten, sent back to council and re-adapted… It’s back again! City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Meeting on November 28?
This last meeting of the month is not the last meeting of the month in November. No, after this meeting there’s still the multiyear budget decision meeting the very next day, but on this night, there’s some relatively lighter matters to consider. Among them are the ratification of this month’s Committee of the Whole agenda, some new appointments and a couple of new motions from members of council. This Week at Council: Mad Money, Madder Residents
It was a very busy 30 hours at council this week with three meetings. First up, there was Committee of the Whole with one item main item about governance. Next, a special meeting of council that determined the fate of one development, it was a big development but it was still just about the one. This Week at Council: Livable Income; Accessible Playgrounds!
Nothing really scary at this pre-Halloween council meeting, unless you’re devoid of compassion. Council revisited the Parks and Recreation Master Plan from Committee of the Whole with a wider accessibility lens this time, and then there was a special motion from one councillor about encouraging the creation of a Guaranteed Livable Income. Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the November 6 Meeting?
November is budget month, so maybe it shouldn’t be that surprising that it’s going to be a little bit light in terms of the Committee of the Whole agenda. The agenda is all about the Governance Committee as members of the committee will be asked to look at council education, and the organization of the menagerie of advisory committees at the City. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Meeting on October 24?
Apparently, city council is taking Halloween off. The final meeting of October is a week early, but that fact probably hasn’t had too big of an impact on the list of items for this regular meeting of council because most of it is about what’s already been approved at Committee of the Whole earlier this month. At least one of those reports will be revisited, plus one of our local sports teams will stop by so that their championship can be celebrated.
