POLICE NOTES: Luring Bust, Tools Taken, and Pellet Gun Incident

There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault

A 43-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts each of breaching a probation order and possessing a weapon contrary to an order in the case of another an incident involving a pellet gun, this time at an apartment near Woolwich and Speedvale. A witness saw a man yelling a threatening remark while aiming a firearm towards a unit. He discharged the weapon twice before running away. When police caught up with him, he was found with the pellet gun and two knives.

Break-Ins

Monday morning police received a call from a manager at a business on Woodlawn Road East. A large shed on the property had been entered overnight, and two Stihl backpack-style leaf blowers and a ratchet set worth approximately $1,350 were stolen. Human Trafficking/IPV

A 65-year-old Toronto man was charged with possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material. This was in addition to being charged previously with 10 counts of luring a child under 16 last month hollowing an investigation by Guelph Police.


A 38-year-old Guelph man was charged with two counts of luring a child under 16 and making sexually explicit material available to a person under 16 after officers received information earlier this month from the RCMP. An undercover officer in Newfoundland posed as a 15-year-old girl and was having ongoing chats with a man, who engaged her in sexually explicit conversations and sent pornographic videos and explicit images of himself. On Tuesday, a warrant was executed at a south-end residence. A man was arrested and devices were seized as evidence for further examination.

Impaired Driving

A 31-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving last Sunday morning after police were called when man entered a Woodlawn West business and seemed unsteady on his feet. He drove away, was found by police in a parking lot on Silvercreeek, and was arrested. He had more than twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Theft

On Thursday morning, police were called to an address near Wyndham and Cork where sometime overnight entry was gained to the building, and tools valued at approximately $3,000 – including a drywall gun, routers, an impact drill and several batteries – were stolen, along with a Macbook computer. Approximately $10,000 worth of power tools were stolen from a trailer at a business on Southgate Drive. A lock was broken off the trailer sometime last weekend and the complainant later observed some of his items for sale on an online marketplace. On Thursday afternoon, a 30-year-old Brantford man was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, flight from police, dangerous driving and two counts of driving while prohibited. On Sunday, police were driving on Wellington East when a black Dodge Ram was being driven erratically and almost collided with the marked cruiser. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the suspect fled at a high rate of speed.


A 30-year-old Guelph man was arrested on three counts of theft under $5,000 on Tuesday for the theft of almost $3,300 in product from a west end LCBO three times between March 31 and April 27.


A 12-year-old Guelph boy was charged with two counts of robbery, possessing weapons for a dangerous purpose and breaching a release order last Saturday for two incidents. One in a north end parking lot where another 14-year-old was punched and threatened with bear spray before his sweater was stolen, and then a second where the employee at a store near York and Ontario was sprayed in the face with bear spray by a youth who stole candy and fled.

Theft (Auto)

Just after 8 am last Friday, a resident near Pine Ridge and Jenson reported two men had attempted to steal her 2025 Lexus SUV. Security video showed two men arriving in a dark-coloured sedan approximately 2:40 am. One smashed a rear window to gain entry but was not able to override the vehicle’s electrical system. A 41-year-old Kitchener man was arrested for occupying a stolen motor vehicle on Tuesday after he spotted as a passenger leaving a Waterloo Avenue parking long the day before in a stolen 2025 Ford Escape. The car was later recovered in the same area.


A 31-year-old Kitchener man was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 on Sunday morning after a man pulled up at a gas stations, was unable to restart his car, and left it there. Investigation revealed it had been stolen from Kitchener while warming up earlier in the day. Just before 6 pm the suspect was located and arrested inside a north-end business.

Traffic

A 45-year-old Guelph man is charged with speeding and driving while suspended on Wednesday after being after police clocked a vehicle doing 89 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone near Wellington and Imperial. The vehicle was stopped and the driver found to be a suspended driver.


An 18-year-old Waterloo man is charged with speeding and stunt driving on Monday night after a patrol near Wellington and Imperial was clocked travelling 101 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone.

Other Notes

At approximately 5:20 pm police were called about an incident that took place just after 4 pm on Tuesday at W.E. Hamilton Park. A 12-year-old girl and two friends were walking through the park when they saw a man standing in a bush area with his pants down masturbating. The girls yelled at the man, who quickly left the area. He was described as a white man, 25-35, wearing a grey hoodie, black pants, a black backpack and a green and blue camo face covering. He was last seen on foot walking towards Stone Road Mall. A 45-year-old Guelph man was arrested for breaching a bail order on Thursday afternoon after police were called to Fife Road on another matter. He was on bail for a number of property offences including a condition he not communicate with the woman he was found with and that he had outstanding warrants with Waterloo Regional Police. He was transferred to their custody.


A 43-year-old Guelph man was charged with breaching a conditional sentence. Earlier this month he was given a conditional sentence for assault saying that he remain inside his residence at all times, but on Monday night he was spotted in a plaza at Speedvale and Woolwich.
