POLICE NOTES: More Fake Guns, School Lockdown, and Three Big Drug Busts

There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault

On Wednesday, a 14-year-old Guelph girl was arrested for assault causing bodily harm from an incident in February where one girl grabbed another by the hair and punched her several times causing a concussion.


A 41-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for assault and breach of probation early Wednesday morning after a woman loitering near a staff entrance at Guelph General Hospital refused to leave the area. While trying to remove her, the woman brought an employee’s arm towards her mouth, and felt the woman’s teeth graze her skin. During the scuffle the victim sustained a small cut on her arm.


A 63-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for assault causing bodily harm on Monday afternoon after she and a neighbour sitting outside and exchanged heated words due to an ongoing dispute. The woman saw the man approaching her vehicle and went out to confront him by striking him in the head several times with a piece of wood.


A 51-year-old Guelph man was charged with three counts of assault and two counts of breaching probation orders last Thursday morning after police were called to a business at Gordon and Wellington where he spat in the face of two people. This was after he attended a nearby social service agency where he threw a pot full of hot coffee on an employee.

Break-Ins

A 36-year-old Guelph woman and 35-year-old Guelph man were each charged with break and enter after breaking into the west end apartment of a man they believed was in custody on Tuesday. The man is also charged with possessing a controlled substance because a search revealed a baggie with suspected cocaine while the woman is further charged with breaching a probation order and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Drugs

A 44-year-old Guelph man was charged with two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing proceeds of crime over $5,000 and five counts of possessing a weapon while prohibited on Monday evening. The Drug Enforcement Unit stopped a rideshare and arrested the passenger, who had been the subject of an ongoing trafficking investigation. Officers found a loaded .45-calibre pistol, quantities of fentanyl and cocaine with an estimated value of $6,200 and more than $11,000 cash. Investigation revealed the man is bound by several weapons prohibitions. (See above.)


A 27-year-old Guelph man was charged with trafficking a controlled substance and two counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking following a Drug Enforcement Unit investigation. On Wednesday, the suspect was located in a parking lot on Woodlawn Road West and arrested. Officers seized a quantity of cocaine and more than 450 prescription opioids with a total value of $7,200. Three men and a woman between the ages of 24 and 36 were each charged with possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking after the Drug Enforcement Unit executed search warrants last Thursday at addresses on Imperial Road North, Woolwich Street and Kent Street. During the searches officers located cocaine valued at approximately $15,000 as well as smaller amounts of suspected crack cocaine, crystal meth, fentanyl and prescription opioids.

Fraud

On Monday, a 33-year-old Brampton man was arrested for fraud over $5,000 after the victim met the suspect through a mutual friend and started a business. The two set up a registered company and opened a company bank account and in December, then two unknown individuals deposited a number of fraudulent cheques into the account and immediately withdrew the funds before the cheques were returned, leaving the victim’s account with a negative balance of more than $31,000. When the victim confronted the suspect he stopped responding.


On Sunday, a Guelph woman called police to report that her father, in his 60s, had been the victim of fraud. In late 2025, he was contacted by an individual who was aware of the earlier fraud and claimed he could help the victim recoup his losses. The man made a series of transfers from his bank account to a supposed credit company. When the father later became ill his daughter took over his affairs and discovered the fraud. The man lost $198,000.

Impaired Driving

A 24-year-old Cambridge man is charged with impaired driving and speeding on Thursday night after a patrol near Gordon and Stone was clocked doing 81 kilometres per hour in a 50 kilometres per hour Community Safety Zone. The driver had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

Theft (Auto)

Just before 9 am on Sunday, a resident of Silvercreek Parkway North reported that his silver 2019 Highlander had been stolen overnight from the parking lot of his apartment building, and then at 4:55 pm, a Hamilton man saw his grey 2024 Grand Highlander being driven quickly out of the parking lot at Stone Road Mall. The suspect was described as a black male in his 30s and wearing a dark hoodie and sunglasses. Officers reviewed security camera footage which appeared to show two men arriving in the lot in a white Audi SUV. If you have any information, call the Guelph Police Service at 519-824-1212.


A 26-year-old Toronto man was charged with motor vehicle theft, possessing stolen property over $5,000 and two counts of breaching bail conditions on Thursday morning after a 2021 Ram TRX pick-up was stolen from a parking lot. Members of Break Enter Auto Theft located the truck at an address in Toronto and made an arrest.

Traffic

A 21-year-old Guelph man is charged with stunt driving, speeding and careless driving on Thursday after police on patrol near Gordon and Wellington observed a driver accelerating quickly, tailgating another car and then passing on a solid line. The car was travelling at 90 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone.


A 46-year-old Guelph man was charged with speeding, stunt driving and failing to surrender a vehicle permit on Wednesday night after a Volkswagen was clocked travelling at 108 kilometres per hour in a posted 60 zone near Gordon and Maltby.


On Monday, a 41-year-old Ariss man was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm for a collision last month where a man was struck by a truck after pushing his girlfriend out of the way. The man suffered significant internal injuries which are expected to be life-altering. He has undergone several surgeries and remains in hospital.

Other Notes

Just after 1 pm on Thursday, police learned of a threat against Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute and the school was placed in lockdown. Officers contained the school and conducted a thorough search but nothing was found. The threat is believed to be unfounded and the lockdown was lifted at 2:15 p.m. The incident remains under investigation so if you have any information call Detective Constable Cecilia Hudecki at 519-824-1212, ext. 7215, or email chudecki [at] guelphpolice.ca.


On Sunday afternoon, police received a report of a man walking near Quebec Street and Norfolk Street with a gun in his hand. Police found the man and it turned out that he had a black battery-powered water gun that resembled a Glock firearm. The man understood why people might have been concerned about the toy’s appearance and agreed to surrender it to police. No charges were laid.


Last Friday morning, police were notified of a man with a firearm inside a residence near Woolwich and Marilyn. Approximately 10 officers – including members of the Tactics and Rescue Unit – surrounded the residence and a short time later a man exited and was taken into custody. A search of the apartment revealed a black replica firearm. The man was released without charges and cautioned on the dangers of having replica firearms. It was later turned over for destruction.
