There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 27-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault and uttering threats last Saturday after police were called to a business on Woodlawn Road West. The victim reported that she had been having issues with a man inside the business when he uttered a threat and spat on her shirt. She was not physically injured.
Break-Ins
At approximately 1:30 am on Friday, a resident near Kortright and Rickson checked his garage after receiving a notification his car’s door was open. Both vehicles had been entered and rummaged through, and an exterior garage door had been forced open. An orange cordless drill was confirmed to be missing but it is not yet known what else was stolen. If you have any information, email Constable Liam Gallivan at lgallivan [at] guelphpolice.ca.
Just before 8 pm on January 23, an 18-year-old man was home alone near Elmira and Tovell when he heard a knock and saw a man standing at the front door. Moments later he heard glass breaking and locked himself in an upstairs bathroom. The complainant heard someone running up the stairs and begin pushing the bathroom door. He yelled and the intruder fled. A man was captured on security video wearing a puffy black North Face jacket, track pants and a full face covering. The second man was described by witnesses as also wearing all black. They left the area in a grey or silver SUV. Fraud
On January 10, a Cambridge woman said she went downtown Guelph to meet a man interested in purchasing a bracelet she listed for sale online. The man handed over twenty $100 bills but the seller was concerned about the legitimacy of the bills. The man assured her they were real and left the area with the bracelet, but they were counterfeit. On January 20, a Guelph man arranged to meet a woman at Stone Road Mall to buy an iPhone he was selling. The woman handed over $850 in $50 and $100 bills, but the bills were fake. The woman was described as white, early 20s with dark brown hair and wearing a dark jacket, green track pants and large hoop earrings. It is believed she was a passenger in a white SUV. Impaired Driving
A 35-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, refusing to comply with a breath demand and careless driving on Wednesday evening after a car was rear-ended near Stone and the Hanlon. When police arrived on the scene, they located a Tesla, which is owned by the driver’s mom, in a ditch.
A 36-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and driving while suspended on Tuesday evening after police stopped a car on Victoria near York after the cruiser’s automated licence plate reader alerted to a vehicle associated with a suspended driver. While speaking to the driver the officer noted an odour of alcohol.
A 36-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving on Tuesday night after police were dispatched to a west-end address after residents found a man sleeping in a running car in their driveway and were unable to wake him.
A 31-year-old Salem man was charged with impaired driving after a disturbance downtown early Wednesday. Witnesses reported an intoxicated man being physically aggressive with people and driving his car. Officers arrived and found a man lying in the backseat of the car with the keys.
A 67-year-old Guelph woman was charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving Monday afternoon after police were called to a business on Stone Road East where they found a car wedged between two parked cars, with the driver unable to exit her vehicle. Officers spoke to her and immediately detected an odour of alcohol on her breath, and when tested she had twice the legal amount of alcohol in her system.
A 44-year-old Puslinch woman was charged with impaired driving during a RIDE check last Saturday evening on Kortright West. Almost 900 vehicles were checked during Saturday’s RIDE checks. Fifteen drivers were asked to provide roadside breath samples but no additional criminal charges were laid.
Theft
At approximately 12:30 pm on Wednesday police were called to a west-end apartment building where the property manager reported a break-in overnight to the building’s electrical room. A router and modem with a combined value of $500 were stolen. The suspect was caught on video. Police are continuing to investigate after four men worked together to steal almost $2,800 worth of baby formula from the No Frills at Gordon and Harvard on November 6. They were described as:
1. Brown skin, 33–40, 5’11”, thin build, black greying hair, light beard, brown winter jacket with black patches, light grey t-shirt
2. Brown skin, 30-38, 5’11”, medium build, black hair, black winter jacket, grey hoodie
3. Brown skin, 18-27, 5’7” to 5’9”, thin build, black hair, black winter jacket, black t-shirt
4. Brown skin, 5’11” to 6’, 30-38, heavy build, black hair, black beard, baseball cap, black hoodie with yellow print on sleeves

Theft (Auto)
On Thursday morning, the owner of a business on Woodlawn Road West reported that at approximately 1 am, three suspects arrived in a silver Honda sedan and parked beside a 2002 GMC Sierra. Two of the suspects were able to enter the vehicle but were unable to start it because the vehicle was not operable as the transmission had been removed for repairs. On Sunday morning, a resident near Clair and Beaver Meadow reported that his black 2025 Honda CRV had been stolen overnight from the parking lot of his building. A few hours later a Toronto woman called to report her white 2024 Honda CRV Hybrid had been stolen overnight while she was visiting her parents near Gordon Street and Gosling Gardens, and then a Waterdown man reported his 2025 Jeep Wrangler had been stolen from his daughters’ residence also near Clair and Beaver Meadow, but it was later recovered in Toronto. It is not known if the thefts are connected. Anyone with information is asked to call the Guelph Police Service at 519-824-1212.
Traffic
A 43-year-old Guelph man and 31-year-old Guelph man were each charged with speeding and stunt driving. One was caught doing 123 kilometres per hour in a 70 zone near College and the Hanlon, and the other doing 100 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone hear Gordon and Maltby.
Other Notes
Medhani Yohans, 36, was arrested downtown at 2:35 pm for breaching a condition of his latest probation order two hours after he was released from custody. He had been ordered to stay away from a particular address. Yohans has a history of violence which includes two sexual assaults on strangers. The Guelph Police Service issued a public warning after Yohans was released from court after pleading guilty to breaching an earlier probation order.
On Tuesday evening, a 20-year-old Guelph man attended the police station and was arrested on one count of voyeurism for an incident at Stone Road Mall in September where a woman was trying on clothes when she observed someone holding a phone under the stall. She quickly left the change room and confronted the man, who denied doing anything wrong and quickly left the mall. Several residents identified the male after his photo was shared on a recent Guelph Police Service media release.
