POLICE NOTES: Hit and Run, Student Speeder, and a Bus Shelter Beating,

There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault

A 29-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault after lingering around and refusing to leave a store at Gordon and Wellington early Tuesday morning. When he was released after the noon hour, he went to a residence in the same area and when he was asked to leave the suspect grabbed the victim by the throat. He was arrested again for assault causing bodily harm and fail to leave premises when directed.


A 54-year-old Guelph woman was charged with assault last Friday morning after she punched an 18-year-old victim in the face in a bus shelter at Willow and Silvercreek. The suspect accused the victim of trying to record her with a smart phone while she was looking for something she had misplaced in the shelter.

Impaired Driving

A 42-year-old Puslinch man was charged with dangerous operation, fail to stop after an accident, and operation while impaired on Tuesday after leaving a Clair Road restaurant where he was refused service. When he drove up to the intersection at Clair and Gordon, he accelerated quickly crossing into the centre and curb lanes, struck two vehicles in those lanes, and continued driving eastbound.


A 41-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired operation of a conveyance after reports of an impaired driver in the area of Silvercreek and Woodlawm early Monday morning.


A 57-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired operation, dangerous operation and fail to stop after an accident last Sunday evening after a minor two vehicle collision near the intersection of Speedvale and Elmira. After the collision, the suspect fled the scene, driving away to a nearby residence.

Theft

A 57-year-old Guelph man has been charged with fail to attend court, two counts of theft under $5,000 and three counts of breach of probation on Monday. In November, the suspect stole nearly $300 in alcohol from two different stores in the city, but after failing to attend criminal court in August.

Traffic

A 17-year-old Guelph man has been charged with speeding, stunt driving, and fail to have an insurance card last Friday night after their vehicle was clocked driving 90 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone. The 48-year-old Guelph man who owned the car was also charged two a pair of offenses.

Other Notes

A 30-year-old Guelph man was charged with four counts of breaching probation on Tuesday after he was observed inside a commercial building downtown that he was prohibited from entering.


A 38-year-old Guelph woman was charged with breach of probation on Monday after she was arrested downtown for missing a date with the probation and parole office in November.
