There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
On Monday, a 16-year-old Guelph boy was arrested for assault causing bodily harm for an October 1 incident behind Bullfrog Mall where two boys were fighting when a third intervened and punched one of them in the face. A 14-year-old Guelph boy was transported to hospital at the time for treatment.
Break-Ins
Just after 8 am on Wednesday, officers were called to a business near York and Victoria where a large hole had been cut through a wall from a common hallway shared with other businesses. Cash and a quantity of animal medications were stolen. Video showed two people walking from the area just after 3 am. They appeared to be a male wearing a sweater with a light-coloured logo on the front, dark pants and dark boots and a female with a small build wearing a sweater with a reflective logo on the arm. Residents near Glasgow and Oxford reported to police that at about 11 pm on Sunday, they saw a man leaving their property on a bicycle, and then saw another man inside their garage who fled. He was described as having a thin build and wearing black jeans and a black hoodie. Nothing was stolen. On Monday, a second resident in the same neighbourhood reported his shed had been around midnight. Batteries and a charger were removed from the shed but left behind and a hatchet was stolen. A 59-year-old Guelph man turned himself in to police Thursday night and is charged with break and enter for an October 12 break-in at a business near Woolwich and Woodlawn. Another suspect, a 45-year-old Guelph woman, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with break and enter and wearing a disguise while committing an offence.
Drugs
Police report that more than a dozen arrests were made last weekend as part of the downtown public safety initiative. The arrests included nine individuals arrested for possessing controlled substances, plus five other individuals were arrested on criminal charges including possessing stolen property, breaching court orders and failing to attend court as required.
A 26-year-old Guelph man and 54-year-old Guelph man were both charged with carrying a concealed weapon and unauthorized possession of a weapon Tuesday afternoon after they were arrested for consuming controlled substances in public. The two were searched and quantities of suspected fentanyl and crystal meth were seized, plus, one had a switchblade knife and the other had bear spray. The younger man is also charged with failing to comply with a release order.
A 37-year-old Guelph man was arrested for trafficking a controlled substance, possessing ammunition while prohibited and two counts of breaching a probation order last Saturday morning after two men were observed in the back of a social service agency on Quebec Street making a drug buy. A search of the suspect’s property revealed a small amount of suspected fentanyl, a digital scale, three contaminated pipes and three bullets.

Impaired Driving
A 23-year-old Hamilton man was charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving on Tuesday night after a driver struck a parked Tesla, pushing it against a utility pole. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage at Bristol and Yorkshire. Officers observed several empty and unopened beer cans and detected an odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath.
A 27-year-old Port Colborne man was charged with impaired operation Monday after police were called to a business near Gordon and Wellington where a customer smelled of cannabis and appeared disoriented and unsteady on his feet. Police arrived and found him sitting in the driver’s seat.
Theft
At approximately 1:20 pm on October 15 a woman entered a business on Eramosa Road and placed 11 Cerave-brand items into a large purse before walking from the store. The items were valued at approximately $240. The suspect was described as a woman in her 50s with a large build and brown hair and wearing a black sweater and grey leggings. Just before 11 am on Wednesday, two Nintendo Switch Pokemon systems and 28 copies of the Pokemon Legends game from a business near Woodlawn and Woolwich. The merchandise was worth almost $5,000. The suspect was described as black, mid-20s, 6 feet tall and wearing a black hoodie under a black vest, grey pants, a white face mask, white hat and black shoes. At approximately 12:25 pm on Wednesday, police were notified that a Bell utility box near Willow and Applewood had been entered and wires removed. The theft was discovered by a technician responding to a complaint of a service outage affecting nearby businesses, and while the value of the wire is about $100, the cost of repairing the damage would be between $5,000 to $10,000. At approximately 7:10 pm last Friday, police were called to a business near York and Ontario where a man entered wearing a balaclava and holding a knife. He demanded and received cash and fled on foot. The suspect was described as a black male with light skin. He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a black mask and carrying a knife with a purple handle. Theft (Auto)
On Thursday morning, a resident near Arkell and Zecca reported that her black 2015 Passat had been stolen from the driveway overnight. The vehicle is reported to be in good condition with no distinguishing marks, but was very low on gas when the owner last used it. At approximately 5:15 am on Wednesday, a resident of Cole Road called to report his black 2022 Nissan Altima had been stolen after it was left running. The victim still has both sets of keys. Other Notes
Guelph Police are investigating after three businesses in the area of Silvercreek and Speedvale had their windows smashed early Sunday morning. The first call came in at 6:40 am with the other calls coming one and two hours later. It did not appear entry was gained at any of the businesses. In two of the incidents the suspect was described as a male with a slim to medium build and short dark hair and wearing a black hoodie with white writing on the sleeve, black pants and white running shoes. A 24-year-old Guelph man was charged with prowling near a dwelling, possessing a prohibited weapon and two counts of failing to comply with a release order early on Monday morning after a resident in the Exhibition Park neighbourhood called police about a man who had entered a construction zone while wearing a balaclava. A search revealed a set of brass knuckles and a hatchet.
