Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
Just before 2 am last Saturday, police received a report of a disturbance downtown where several parties engaged in a physical altercation inside in a club and were removed. Outside, one of the parties discharged pepper spray into the air, causing several people to feel the effects. The suspect was described as a white male, more than six feet tall with blonde hair in a mushroom-style cut and wearing a black shirt with white stripe on the collar. On Wednesday a 29-year-old Guelph man was located downtown and arrested for assault police and two counts of breaching probation orders for an incident Monday where a police officer was punched in the face and bitten earlier in the week.
A 45-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats for a incident last month where a man waved a knife at a staff member of a downtown bar and threatening them.
Break-Ins
On Wednesday, police were called to a business on Woodlawn near Nicklin where officers found a hole in a chain-link fence. The main door into the business was ajar and had damage to the locking mechanism and handle and security video showed that a white male in all black clothing including a baseball cap and hood gained access at 10:10 pm on Tuesday. Shortly before 2 pm on Wednesday, a resident near Willow and Elmira discovered a window at the rear of their house had been shattered. A quantity of cash and expensive items including a Rolex watch, various other jewelry and designer bags all worth more than $70,000 were missing. A suspect captured on security video was described as a white or Asian male, 25 to 35 years with a medium build and short hair. He was wearing a grey hoodie, grey sweatpants with black zipper on the pocket, a blue and white baseball cap, grey or black Nike running shoes, a black backpack and a blue medical mask. Police are investigating after a PlayStation and UGG-brand shoes were stolen from a man’s bedroom while he was in the shower on Sunday around midnight in a house on Kortright Road West. On Tuesday afternoon, a resident near Metcalfe and Kensington reported her shed had been entered sometime the previous night. A women’s light blue Gary Fisher mountain bike, with full suspension, a white seat and black handgrips, and an adult-sized BMX bike with a black frame, bright green wheels and green handgrips were both taken. On Monday at 4:18 am, two men gained access to the back door of a business located near Victoria and York. They proceeded to take a register containing cash and a case of 24 cans of assorted soda before fleeing the business. The first male was wearing a dark grey jacket with hood up, black backpack, black pants, black shoes, black medical mask and dark gloves while the second was wearing a maroon sweater with hood up, black pants, white and black backpack and black medical mask. Drugs
A 24-year-old Guelph man and a 23-year-old Guelph man were jointly charged with possessing fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking after they were seen breaking into a vehicle downtown last Friday. Officers recovered quantities of suspected fentanyl and crystal meth with an estimated street value of $4,700 as well as digital scales, empty baggies, cash, and a collapsible baton. The younger male is also charged with possessing meth for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of probation.

Impaired Driving
A 28-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, careless driving causing bodily harm and failing to remain at a collision early Friday. A motorist had lost control and crossed the centre line, striking another car head-on near Wellington and Bristol. The woman driving the second vehicle sustained serious injuries to her legs and was transported to a Hamilton trauma centre. The suspect fled on foot and was arrested two hours later.
A 36-year-old Guelph man was charged with operation while impaired last Saturday after police were called about a possible impaired driver near Pailsey and Edinburgh.
Theft
A Rockwood woman reported that she was shopping at a business on Speedvale Avenue East when a woman stole her necklace in another distraction theft. The female suspect was described as possibly Indian, shorter than 5’7” with long hair in a ponytail and wearing a white top with blue leaf-style pattern. The driver of the grey or white SUV she arrived in was a possibly Indian man in his late 30s or early 40s with a heavy build and short, wavy hair. On Monday at 12:30 pm, a white SUV approached an adult man in a residential parking lot downtown. The female passenger asked for directions, and then offered him what looked like Rolex, but it was a fake. It was yet another distraction theft, and the victim’s 18-karat gold Rolex Datejust was taken and replaced with a fake. The pair, a man and a woman, were driving an SUV, and both were approximately 30 years of age and were of Arab descent. The male had dark hair with no facial hair, and the female was wearing a white hijab. Traffic
On Thursday, a 37-year-old Rockwood man was arrested for dangerous driving and driving without insurance for a September 11 incident where a driver became irate and began making rude gestures at another driver because she did not make a left turn at Woolwich and Woodlawn on the amber light. He then aggressively sped around her during the turn on the next green light before losing control, mounting the curb and uprooting several metal posts before striking a Guelph business.
Other Notes
At approximately 3:30 pm on Monday, an 11-year-old was sitting alone outside the West End Community Centre when a pickup truck stopped nearby. The driver exited the truck and approached the boy claiming to know the boy’s mother and said that she had asked him to pick the boy up because he was at the wrong arena. The boy refused and the man left. He was described as a white man with a pale face, approximately 60 years, 5’9” with an average build and red or brown hair, a beard and freckles. A 18-year-old Guelph man arrested for exposure to a person under 16, distributing sexually explicit material to a person under 16 and luring a person under 16 in August was rearrested Thursday afternoon and additionally charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.
