There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 30-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and possessing a controlled substance on Wednesday night after three men were involved in a verbal dispute on Wyndham Street. Two walked away to disengage, but the third man followed them to the intersection of Macdonell Street where he removed a folding knife from his pocket, unfolded it and brandished it towards the other two. During the ensuing struggle both victims sustained minor cuts to their hands. A small amount of crystal methamphetamine was located during a search.
A 15-year-old Guelph girl was arrested for assaulting a police officer on Tuesday night in the area of Auden and Eastview after a complaint about loud music. Police were called after one of the youths threatened Bylaw officers with a glass bottle and when the police arrived she swore at them and spat at one officer, striking his arm. Investigation revealed she was also wanted for assault on an unrelated matter.
On Sunday a 30-year-old Brampton man was arrested for assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, assault and theft under $5,000 for an incident Friday afternoon in the area of Glasgow and Essex. Investigation revealed a man had left a house with property that didn’t belong to him. Another man tried to stop him and was twice struck by the subject’s car. The victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention. The parties are known to each other.
Break-Ins
Just after 9 am on Tuesday, the caretaker at a downtown church called police to report damage to the building. Metal railings had been damaged, with one pulled completely off its mount and another badly bent. As well a thick glass pane had been struck with something and will likely need to be replaced. At approximately 4:30 pm last Friday, police were called to an address near Kathleen and London. The homeowner returned after being out for a couple of hours and discovered a rear window broken. Drugs
A 22-year-old Guelph man and 18-year-old Kitchener man were each charged with possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking on Monday after police performed a wellness check on two men passed out in a vehicle parked at a College Avenue address. They opened the car and detected the strong odour of cannabis, and found a brick of cocaine as well as two individually-wrapped baggies with a total estimated value of $10,000. The Guelph man is also charged with breaching a release order.
Fraud
On Wednesday, a Guelph woman reported that she saw a social media ad which falsely claimed Ontario Premier Doug Ford was launching a new cryptocurrency initiative to help Canadians. Believing the ad to be legitimate, she made an initial investment of $350. She was encouraged by individuals claiming to represent an investment firm to make further investments, and eventually she had deposited $90,000 USD. When the victim attempted to withdraw her funds she was asked to pay thousands in fees.

Impaired Driving
A 51-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and driving with cannabis readily available on Sunday evening after police pulled over a car in the west end. Officers detected a strong odour of burned cannabis inside the vehicle and could see used and unused cannabis cigarettes inside.
Theft
Last Friday, a resident near Speedvale and Edinburgh reported that his detached garage was twice entered overnight. An orange Slane Santiago e-bike purchased 11 days earlier was stolen, as well as a laptop and bicycle accessories with a total value of nearly $3,900. The suspect, who was caught on security video, was described as a white male, 6’2” with a thin build and short brown hair and wearing a black sweater, black shorts with red boxers underneath, black shoes and a maroon backpack with fluorescent stripes on the pocket. A 57-year-old Guelph man is charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000 and nine counts of driving while prohibited on Monday in another jurisdiction for a June 2 incident where a man was robbed by another man known to him over an outstanding debt.
Theft (Auto)
At approximately 5:20 pm on Thursday, a Guelph man called police to report his black 2016 Lexus RC350 had been stolen from a lot near Eramosa and Stevenson. The complainant said he parked the car at about 3 pm before heading to the gym and then a grocery store, and when he came outside it was gone. A Guelph man called police at approximately 10:20 pm on Sunday and reported that he had parked his black 2024 Highlander in a parking lot at Gordon and Clair at 7 pm, and that was gone three hours later when he came back. At approximately 8:25 am on Monday, police were called to a business near Woolwich and Woodlawn where a Guelph man had parked his grey 2019 Ford F150 and returned 45 minutes later to find the truck missing. The keys had been left inside.
Then, at 10:30 am, a resident near Edinburgh and Youngman reported his 2014 Hyundai Accent stolen overnight from the street in front of his house, but it was recovered just before 5 pm on Speedvale Avenue East.
Police were also called from a business near Woodlawn and Elmira where an employee reported earlier in the day that they had noticed a 2021 Volvo truck missing from the lot. Security video showed a black SUV entering the lot at 7:33 a.m. A suspect exited the SUV and entered the Volvo and both were driven out of the lot. Staff were able to track the truck via GPS to an address in Cambridge, where it was recovered without any visible damage.
A 30-year-old Guelph man and 42-year-old Guelph man are each charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and occupying a stolen vehicle on Wednesday for the theft of a stolen Toyota Highlander in the Willow and Dawson area on September 22. The Highlander was located undamaged outside of Guelph several days later. The younger man is also charged with breaching a probation order and driving while suspended.
On Thursday, a Ford F150 stolen Monday morning from a parking lot on Woodlawn Road West was located by OPP officers in Rockwood. Three people in the truck at the time were arrested.
Traffic
A 19-year-old man from Northern Ontario was charged with careless driving causing death and two counts of careless driving causing bodily harm in connection to the September 19 collision at Paisley and Alma where a 38-year-old Guelph woman was killed.
A 13-year-old girl was transported to hospital after colliding with a car while riding her skateboard Thursday morning. Investigation revealed that the teen went through a stop sign and hit the moving vehicle at Applewood and Greengrate. The girl sustained minor facial injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.
A 40-year-old Guelph man was charged with 18 counts of driving while prohibited as well as breaching a probation order on Thursday.
Other Notes
A 27-year-old Montreal man has been arrested by the Human Trafficking Unit for allegedly trafficking an 18-year-old Quebec woman across Quebec and Ontario. He was charged with procuring for sexual services, advertising sexual services, trafficking in persons, and obtaining a material benefit from trafficking persons. Guelph Police worked with the Ontario Provincial Police, as well as municipal police in Montreal and Laval in the apprehension and return of the accused.
