There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 17-year-old Guelph boy was charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a bail order, and an 18-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault last Friday. At approximately 11:20 pm, police were called to the area of Wyndham and Carden after a witness saw two men assaulting a third. During the assault one of the men pulled out a large knife and held it towards the victim, who was able to flee and has not yet been identified. A 36-year-old Kitchener man was charged with sexual assault, mischief under $5,000, possessing a controlled substance and impaired driving on Wednesday after a woman reported she had been sexually assaulted by a man known to her at a residence near downtown. During the investigation the man returned to the residence in his vehicle and was arrested, and a pill bottle containing suspected crack cocaine was found on him.
A 20-year-old Toronto man was charged with assault causing bodily harm for an altercation outside a bar early Tuesday morning. One man was transported to hospital for treatment of facial injuries.
Last Saturday night, a 15-year-old Guelph boy was arrested for assault, mischief under $5,000 and uttering threats after a house party got out of control on Friday. A bedroom mirror and other property was damaged and the host of the party was assaulted.
Break-Ins
Last Friday evening, a 44-year-old Mount Forest man was arrested for possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing break-in instruments, break and enter and two counts of driving while prohibited in connection to a break-in to a backyard shed on Franchetto Boulevard back in August and after finding a motorcycle stolen from Mount Forest earlier this month.
Drugs
Three Guelph men, aged 19 to 42, and a 50-year-old Guelph woman are charged with possessing fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking after several units executed a warrant at an address near Willow and Edinburgh. Officers recovered a quantity of fentanyl and cocaine as well as cash, a crossbow, several knives, a hatchet and bullets. A 19-year-old man was also charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and all three of the accused were also charged with possessing weapons while prohibited.

Impaired Driving
An 18-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and several Highway Traffic Act offences on Thursday morning after a BMW had lost control, went off the road and struck a tree at Kortright and Scottsdale. No injuries were reported but the vehicle was destroyed.
A 16-year-old Guelph boy was charged with impaired driving and several Highway Traffic Act offences on Friday night following a minor collision on Quebec Street where a car stopped at a red light was rear-ended. The teen had already been confronted by police three hours earlier after showing signs of impairment and being argumentative.
A 59-year-old Guelph man was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and several other offences on Friday night after a patrol saw someone on an e-bike traveling through a red light on Wellington Street East who then led police on a brief chase before coming to a stop.
A 50-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample last Saturday evening after police received several calls about an erratic driver in the east end. Officers located the involved vehicle in the parking lot of the Grange Plaza and found the driver inside to be unresponsive.
Theft
A woman in her 60s was out for a walk shortly after 11 am on Wednesday when she was approached by a couple near the intersection of Goodwin and Laughlan. They engaged her in conversation and gave her a $20 bill. The suspects also hugged her, at which time they removed her gold chain and replaced it with a fake one. The couple were described as being in their 40s with fair skin and speaking English with a Middle Eastern accent. They were in a vehicle which was last seen on Goodwin Drive towards Victoria. The stolen chain has tremendous sentimental value as it was received as a wedding gift more than 40 years ago. On Monday, a 19-year-old Toronto man was arrested for theft under $5,000, careless driving and driving while suspended for being the getaway driver in a cosmetics heist at an Eramosa Road store in August. Two Scarborough teens were earlier arrested for theft and resisting arrest in connection to this incident.
A 31-year-old Guelph man was charged with trafficking in stolen property, two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon and several counts of possessing a weapon while prohibited after a search warrant was executed on a south end apartment Thursday. A search of the unit also revealed quantities of fentanyl, crystal meth and cocaine with a total value of $2,700, a spring-loaded knife and bear spray. The investigation began this past summer after stolen property was seen on Facebook Marketplace.
Theft (Auto)
Just before 10 pm on Monday night, a Kitchener man called police to report his white 2018 Honda Accord had been stolen while he was watching a movie at the Galaxy Cinema on Clair Road East. At 12:45 am on Monday, police pulled over a black Porsche near Laird and the Hanlon. The driver exited the sports car and ran away. Efforts to locate him were not successful. Several knives and identity documents were located inside the car. The car turned out to be stolen from a south end residence a week earlier. The investigation is ongoing.
Traffic
A 40-year-old Guelph man was charged with careless driving and failing to stop at a red light after his SUV was crushed by a dump truck at Victoria and Arkell on Tuesday morning. Investigation revealed an eastbound SUV entered the intersection on a red light and was struck by a northbound dump truck. The impact caused both vehicles to leave the road and come to rest in a ditch. Debris from the collision struck a third vehicle, damaging the windshield. Remarkably only very minor injuries were reported with neither of the occupants requiring medical assistance.
A 22-year-old man from Cambridge and 20-year-old woman from Woodbridge were charged with stunt driving and driving with obstructed licence plates after police spotted the pair racing southbound on the Hanlon near Stone on Tuesday evening. Both motorcycles also had their rear licence plates attached to hinges, allowing the licence plates to be tucked under the bodywork so they would not be visible from the rear.
Other Notes
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after two homes were damaged by a woman with a baseball bat Wednesday night in a complex near Auden and Eastview. A resident reported a woman came to her front door yelling and carrying a metal baseball bat, but she did not know the woman. Later, a man at a second complex told police that someone buzzed an intercom at his front door and started yelling while demanding to be let inside. He refused and then heard the door being struck several times. The suspect was described as possibly of First Nations descent with black hair in a ponytail and wearing a beige cardigan. A 53-year-old Guelph man was arrested later Thursday and charged with uttering threats after a man upset about an e-transfer he tried to send being declined as possibly fraudulent called in a bomb threat to a west end bank and said he would set it on fire.
Last Friday, a 39-year-old Guelph man was arrested for public mischief and fraud over $5,000 for reporting that a 2025 Cadillac Escalade has been stolen from his driveway while he was out of town for the weekend. None of his neighbours had ever seen the car, and video footage showed there was no Escalade parked in the driveway when it was supposedly taken. The location of the vehicle is unknown.
