Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault

Break-Ins
Police are investigating after a homeowner returned home to their north-end residence to find the rear doorknob had been removed, allowing access to the home; a PlayStation 5, a Bose and JBL speaker, approximately $1000 in cash, clothing, and bottles of liquor were all removed sometime between Sunday morning and Wednesday morning. A business was entered overnight on Wednesday morning in the area of Stevenson and Speedvale. Upon review of CCTV footage, it was observed that a Black Range Rover SUV pulled up to the business, one man was observed using a sledgehammer to break open the business’s door, and then two men took armfuls of merchandise. The items taken are described as gold solder, jewellery fittings, assorted hardware, and a box of samples all worth approximately $7,700. The first man is described as white, wearing all black clothing with white accents, gloves, and a balaclava; the second was white, wearing an orange and yellow construction vest and a white T-shirt, and is armed with a sledgehammer; the third, a driver, was wearing a blue shirt, jeans, a black, red, and white hat, and a red bandana. A 48-year-old Guelph man was arrested for mischief under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime Wednesday morning after he was caught attempting to take a bag of assorted tools and nylon cable from a van near Speedvale and Woolwich.
Drugs
A 65-year-old Guelph man was charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possessing property obtained by crime and breaching a probation order after a search warrant was issued on north-end seniors’ apartment complex last week. Quantities of fentanyl, Hydromorphone and drug paraphernalia were seized, as well as more than $1,600 in cash and a firefighter’s badge determined to be stolen. The man had been arrested on similar charges in June after police executed a warrant at the same apartment and seized fentanyl, crystal meth and three replica firearms. He spent several days in custody before being released on bail.
Fraud
A Guelph resident received a phone call on Tuesday afternoon from an individual claiming to be a police officer. The victim was told that they were going to be arrested if they did not make financial deposits, and were directed to withdraw $5,000 from their bank account and deposit it into a Bitcoin machine. Afterwards, the victim was told to withdraw another $5,000. The victim became suspicious and said that they would prefer to come to the police station to make the deposits. The caller became upset with this. The Guelph Police Service reminds you that they will never contact you to make financial deposits to avoid being arrested. Impaired Driving
A 40-year-old Guelph woman was charged with operation while impaired and dangerous operation after colliding with a parked car last Saturday evening.
Theft
On Thursday afternoon at approximately 1:30 pm, a woman was walking in the area of Starwood and Watson when she was approached by a white four-door SUV. The female occupant said she was giving away gold for her mother’s birthday, but it was a distraction to steal the victim’s bangle bracelets. The bangles are described as 22k gold, featuring a diamond-shaped pattern, and are valued at $6,000. As for the suspects, the male driver was described as heavyset and approximately 40 years old. The female occupant was described as South Asian, approximately 30 to 40 years old, with short hair. Medical equipment was stolen from a vehicle parked at Spring and Delhi on Tuesday night sometime between 11 pm and 4 am. Items taken include: a complete home birth kit, which included oxygen tanks, anti-hemorrhage medication, stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, ophthalmoscopes, and other medical tools. Last Saturday at approximately 1:25 pm, a man entered a business near Stone and Scottsdale, where he grabbed multiple pieces of Toronto Blue Jays merchandise from the shelf and stuffed them into a duffel bag and left. The man is described as mid-30s, approximately 5’9”, medium build, Middle Eastern descent, having a full sleeve tattoo on his left arm, dark brown hair, and full facial hair. The man was observed leaving the parking lot in a dark brown/grey, four-door Toyota-style sedan. Last Friday at approximately 9 am, three individuals entered a business at Eramosa and Stevenson and began stuffing perfume gift sets worth $1,285 in their jackets before exiting the store. Store security confronted the individuals as they were recognized from a previous theft of similar products and were able to recover the stolen goods. Two of the individuals were described as Middle Eastern males with black hair, approximately mid-20s, and dressed in black. One suspect was described as a black male with black hair and dark clothes. On Monday evening, a new MacBook Air was stolen from a car outside a Silvercreek Parkway business. While the victim was inside, a man exited a Ford Fusion, smashed the victim’s rear driver’s side window, and took the MacBook before fleeing the scene. A 39-year-old Toronto man was arrested in Toronto Tuesday for robbery and multiple firearms-related offenses following a two-month investigation into a south end bank robbery in June.
Theft (Auto)
A black 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander was stolen from the parking lot of a business a Stone and Gordon sometime on Wednesday night. The owner of the vehicle said that the was $600 cash, multiple credit cards, residence keys, a tennis racket set, and tools inside the vehicle. Last Saturday, a 77-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography following up on a search warrant issued at a residence in the west end of Guelph late last month.
A 27-year-old man was charged with arson and failure to comply with a probationary order after starting a fire in front of a business on Woolwich Street last Saturday evening.
