POLICE NOTES: Mice Heist, Tools Taken, and Sunday Speed Trap

There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault

A 23-year-old Guelph man has been charged with assault after getting caught shoplifting at store near Gordon and Stone last Saturday. He left the items, but moved on to another store. The Loss Prevention Officer followed him to another store where the suspect became aggressive, shouldering the LPO in the chest.

Break-Ins

Some time between 11:30 am on Sunday and 12:45 pm on Monday, a residence located near Gordon and Clair was entered. Entry was gained by the door window being smashed; cash and various pieces of jewellery were taken. Some time between midnight and 8:30 am last Saturday the garage of a residence near Gordon and College was entered. Numerous Ryobi tools were taken including a drill, batteries, a lawn mower, and an edger, plus a red and black Gyrocopter 3.0 electric scooter. Drugs

Impaired Driving

A Burlington man was was charged under the Criminal Code with operation while impaired and speeding under the Highway Traffic Act after a police patrol observed a vehicle travelling southbound on the Hanlon Parkway at 104 kilometres per hour in  posted 70 zone.


A 23-year-old Brantford woman was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration early Sunday after driving over a concrete centre medium near Gordon  and Clairfields and popping a tire.


A 21-year-old Guelph man was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration early Sunday after a collision downtown where a single vehicle rolled over on its passenger side after striking a hydro pole. The adult male driver was trapped inside the vehicle and he failed a roadside breath test.

Theft

On Tuesday between 5 and 6:45 pm a vehicle parked on Macdonell Street was entered and a backpack was stolen from inside. The bag was described as a black Lululemon backpack, containing multiple prescriptions, a Canon digital camera, and a U of G student ID. On Monday at approximately 4:01 pm, a man and a woman entered a store in Stone Road Mall and used a tool to open a hard case to steal 12 computer mice valued at $2,075. The individuals have been described as: male, 5’9-6’1 with a medium build, black short hair, and 35-40 years of age, and female, 5’4-5’6 with a medium build, dark long hair, and 30-35 years of age. It was also reported that the two involved have been reported in neighbouring cities, committing thefts at the same businesses. Theft (Auto)

Traffic

Early Thursday morning, a 17-year-old Guelph woman was charged with drive motor vehicle – perform stunt, speeding, and received a 30-day mandatory driver’s suspension after she was caught driving 106 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 zone on College Avenue East.  The vehicle was also impounded for a mandatory 14 days.


On Sunday morning, a speed enforcement was conducted near Edinburgh and College. In just over four hours of enforcement, 14 Provincial Offence Notices were issued for speeding in the 50 kilometre per hour zone. The highest speed observed was a driver travelling at 82 kilometres per hour.

Other Notes

On Monday , police found the man sleeping on a trail located near the intersection of London and Woolwich and he was subsequently arrested for missing a court date earlier this month for charges of possession and failing to comply with an undertaking.
