City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the April 23, 2025 Meeting?

Since Committee of the Whole this month landed on April Food’s Day, we can think of the regular council meeting as a late Easter treat. The treat though is that the main focus of this meeting is on the consent agenda from the earlier Committee of the Whole meeting, but there is a new item in the form of administrative business on a grant from the provincial government. Looks like any controversy will have to be a surprise because this is the agenda!

NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to register with the clerks office before 10 am on Thursday April 17. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.

NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.

NOTE #3: This meeting takes place on the special day of Wednesday due to the Easter long weekend.

Grant Agreement: Funder Reporting Requirement of the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund Grant – The Ontario government made funding available to municipalities to improve local water infrastructure with the purpose of getting more housing built. For Guelph, these efforts take the form of sewer and watermain improvements in the area of Wellington Road East between Gordon and Wyndham, which will create more capacity for up to 150 “shovel-ready” units by 2027. A contract worth $2.75 million was awarded to J.G. Goetz Construction at the beginning of the month, but the provincial government requires that council pass a bylaw to recognise the awarding, which is what this motion and report does.

Consent Agenda items from the Committee of the Whole meetings on April 1. (Items can be pulled by a councillor seeking additional information, otherwise all items will be voted on as a slate without further debate.)

  • Debenture Issue Authority
  • Municipal Service and Financing Agreements Policy
  • Private Tree Protection By-law Update
  • Results of the Feasibility Study for Potential Future Arts and Culture Uses of the Drill Hall
