There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
Just before 11 pm on Tuesday night, a resident near Exhibition Park reported that she and her dogs began reacting to a noxious substance. In a basement apartment, a woman had been visiting a friend when another woman known to her showed up and they got into a physical confrontation. The victim was punched repeatedly in the head and had the substance sprayed directly into her face. The investigation is ongoing.
On Thursday, a 39-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm for a February incident where a man in his 50s visiting a friend was struck in the head with a a clay planter and a drill.
A 19-year-old Guelph man is charged with sexual assault and assault Monday afternoon after a woman was followed to a crosswalk at Speedvale and the Hanlon. While the woman was waiting at the crosswalk the man pulled down her pants from behind, knocked her to the ground and sexually assaulted her. This was witnessed by several people driving in the area who stopped and intervened. The suspected was identified from surveillance video and later arrested.
A 45-year-old Kitchener man was charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault by strangling and forcible confinement after a woman reported that she was forced into a vehicle and sexually assaulted near Willow and Silvercreek last Friday morning.
Break-Ins
Just before 2 pm on Wednesday, police were called to Westmount and Campion where the homeowner came home after four hours and found the rear door kicked in and several rooms ransacked. Jewellery, cash and electronics including a laptop and iPad were stolen. The total value is estimated at more than $6,000. Shortly after 1 am on Tuesday, two people entered a daycare near Victoria and York through a kitchen door. They stole approximately $200 worth of groceries from a fridge as well as walkie-talkies and chargers valued at $300. The first suspect was described as having a thin build and wearing a black jacket with white logo on the chest, grey sweatpants with black zippers, black shoes, blue gloves and a face covering. The second was wearing a red jacket, black pants with a white stripe on the thigh, a backpack possibly green in colour and black shoes. At approximately 6:30 am, the owner of a business near Stone and Edinburgh reported that he had received an activation from his alarm company, and found the back door open when he arrived. A man was observed on video arriving at the business on a bicycle and forcing open the door, but he fled when the alarm was activated. A 17-year-old Owen Sound boy and 14-year-old Guelph boy were each charged with break and enter for breaking into a downtown business near Dufferin and George with a sledgehammer on Wednesday evening.
A 34-year-old Guelph man charged with break and enter, mischief under $5,000 and breaching a probation order. On Saturday afternoon police were called to a model home in the south end where someone had gained entry by breaking a window. The suspect’s wallet was found on the nightstand in the bedroom.

Impaired Driving
A 32-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving last Saturday morning after an officer on patrol observed a vehicle travelling at a high speed and changing lanes without signalling.
A 47-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and speeding last Saturday afternoon after after a vehicle was caught travelling 87 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone on Clair Road West.
Theft
Just before 7 pm on Thursday, police were called to a business near Woodlawn and Woolwich where staff reported that a woman tried to make a purchase, but did not have any valid identification to complete the transaction. She left, got into a black Hyundai Sonata with custom chrome rims, and then three men came into the business, threatened two employees and left with cash and product. One was carrying a black handgun and another had a claw hammer with a wooden handle.
The suspects were described as:
- Black male, dark complexion, 5’10”, heavy build, yellow zip-up hoodie, black Nike balaclava, black pants, black gloves
- Black male, lighter complexion, 6’, slim build, long black hair, blue hoodie under yellow vest, black pants, blue shoes
- Black male, dark complexion, 5’8” to 5’10” with a slim build, black North Face windbreaker, grey track pants, black shoes, black duffel bag
- White female, tanned skin, medium build, black shoulder-length hair, black puffy jacket with fur-lined hood, black leggings, black shirt, pink toque, black medical mask

On Tuesday morning, a resident near Eastview and Starwood reported that he came outside to find broken glass in the driveway and his blue Tundra missing. Just before 5 am on Wednesday, a resident near Downey and Niska reported his green 2024 Tundra had been stolen from his driveway. While officers were investigating the theft, they learned the vehicle had been located abandoned near Highway 401 in Mississauga. At approximately 7:35 am on Wednesday, a resident near Rickson and Rodgers reported that his white 2024 Tundra was stolen from his driveway even though it was equipped with a steering lock and computer lock. A Guelph woman parked her grey KQi2 scooter – valued at approximately $800 – outside a business near Gordon and Wellington on Monday evening, and when she came outside at approximately 6:40 pm it was gone. The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s or early 30s, average height and build, light brown or dark blonde hair in a bun and wearing a black sweater with white writing on the front, faded and torn jeans and dark shoes. A 39-year-old Guelph woman, a 44-year-old Guelph man and a 38-year-old Guelph man were all arrested for break and enter over three consecutive days this week for the theft of three high-end bicycles with a total value of $6,900 from a home near Norfolk and Liverpool last month.
Traffic
A 40-year-old Guelph man was charged with driving without a licence, driving without insurance, driving a vehicle without a permit and using improper licence plates last Friday afternoon. An automated license plate reader picked up a vehicle with an expired permit on Victoria Road South. The driver had no insurance and was also charged last summer with driving without a licence and driving without insurance. The car was seized indefinitely.
Other Notes
On Wednesday, the Guelph Fire Department, Guelph Police Service and the Office of the Fire Marshall began an investigation with respect to a house fire on Sunset Road. A 41-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene and a 40-year-old woman remains in a Hamilton hospital, but two days of investigation deemed the fire as not suspicious, which has brought an end to the police’s involvement in this matter.
A 45-year-old Guelph woman was charged with arson and breaching a probation order on Monday morning after the Guelph Fire Department extinguished a small brush fire near York and Victoria.
