There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Smash and Grab
Guelph Police are investigating after five men armed with hammers robbed a jewellery store in the area of Speedvale and Stevenson on Tuesday afternoon. At 1:45 pm, four suspects used hammers to break the glass front door and enter the business while one remained in the car. They fled a short time later but it is not believed anything was stolen.
The suspects who entered the store were described as:
- Black male, average build, wearing a grey Reebok hoodie, black jogging pants, black shoes, gloves, a toque and a face covering, carrying a hammer
- Black male, heavy build, black Nike hoodie, two-tone grey jacket, grey jogging pants, gloves and a red bandana over his face
- Black male, slim build, black hoodie, black jogging pants, mask, medical gloves, carrying a hammer and grey and black backpack
- Black male, grey hoodie, black jacket with hood up, black jogging pants, black and blue Nike shoes, gloves and carrying a hammer and over-the-shoulder grey bag with lime green markings.
They fled in a black Acura TLX sedan which had been reported stolen from Peel Region. Nobody in the business sustained physical injuries. If you have any information call Detective Sergeant Brandon MacKenzie at bmackenzie [at] guelphpolice.ca.
Assault
Just before 4 pm on Thursday police were called to Guelph Central Station where a Transit driver said he had exited the bus to use the washroom and closed the door behind him per policy when a man was waiting on the platform. The man followed the driver to washroom where he punched the driver in the face before fleeing on foot. The victim was treated on scene by paramedics for a minor injury. A 32-year-old Guelph woman is charged with assault and breaching a probation order after spitting on a social worker downtown around noon on Tuesday.
A Guelph man has been arrested after a bouncer at a Guelph bar was attacked and knocked unconscious earlier this month.
A 37-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault causing bodily harm for a February 16 incident at a Woodlawn West business where a bouncer was repeatedly kicked in the head, knocked to the ground, and then kicked several more times. The victim was transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion and other injuries.
A 65-year-old Guelph woman was apprehended and transported to the hospital for an assessment Saturday morning after police were called to an apartment building in the west end. A tenant said that she heard banging then saw a neighbour in the hallway with a large knife. A dispute between two tenants saw one person allegedly make a stabbing motion towards another with one of the knives.
Break-Ins
At approximately 7:40 am on Thursday, a witness called after seeing a man breaking into a kiosk inside Stone Road Mall. He fled while the witness was on the phone with police and was seen getting into the passenger side of a vehicle. It is unknown what was stolen. The suspect was described as a Black male with black hair and a thin beard and wearing a black jacket with a white collar over a light blue hoodie, dark pants, blue and white Nike sneakers and a red Ferrari hat. A 52-year-old Etobicoke man was charged with break and enter, possessing break-in tools and possessing stolen property after a security guard interrupted a break and enter near Massey and Royal early Friday morning.
Drugs

Impaired Driving
A 47-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired operation and possessing a controlled substance on Monday morning after police were called to a Woodlawn West business where a woman was reportedly having issues with her boyfriend outside. In conversations with police, they determined that he was too impaired to operate a vehicle and they recovered two baggies containing a white powdery substance.
A 52-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, stunt driving and speeding on Monday after 11 pm after an officer was in the area of Wellington and McCrae when she observed a vehicle travelling 86 kilometres per hour in a 40 zone.
A 38-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving on Saturday night after police were called to a minor collision in a downtown parking lot. The complainant said he was sitting in his car when another vehicle reversed into it, causing minor damage, then drove away.
A 54-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, speeding and stunt driving on Sunday after an officer driving an unmarked cruiser was passed by a motorist travelling 107 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone.
Theft
On February 9, a man and woman entered a business near Eramosa and Stevenson. They concealed more than 300 cosmetic items in a reusable bag and walked from the store. The first suspect was described as a male with a medium build and wearing a black puffy winter jacket with a hood and blue jeans. The second was a female with a medium build wearing a black winter jacket with hood, grey pants and carrying a black purse. At approximately 2:40 pm on Monday, police were called by the superintendent of an apartment building on Speedvale Avenue West about a vehicle which had been in their parking lot for some time and was buried in snow. Investigation revealed the Nissan Maxima had been stolen from a business on Woolwich in late January. It was impounded for a forensic examination. A 52-year-old Oakville man is charged with several counts each of robbery with a weapon and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence for a Monday bank robbery at a location near Stone and Scottsdale. It is believed the same suspect robbed 14 banks and two retail businesses between February 8 and February 25. The other robberies were in Toronto, Hamilton, Peel, Halton and Niagara regions.
Traffic
Police are hoping to speak to a driver involved in a collision with a man riding an e-bike Monday night at approximately 8 pm at Eastview and Starwood. The driver of the vehicle attempted to provide her information but the cyclist did not take it from her. Shortly after 3 pm last Friday, a member of the Traffic Unit was conducting speed enforcement at Gordon and Landsdown when he observed a white Volkswagen travelling approximately 100 kilometres per hour and weaving around other vehicles. The police tried to stop them, but they fled the scene and in the interest of public safety the vehicle was not pursued. The vehicle was described as a white four-door Volkswagen Golf with a possible dent over the left front wheel. It was last seen running a red light to turn from Gordon to Arkell. Other Notes
On Wednesday a 30-year-old Guelph man was located and charged with mischief under $5,000 for an August 2023 incident where two hospital rooms were damaged.
A 34-year-old Guelph man was charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling, mischief under $5,000 and breaching a probation order while a 17-year-old Guelph boy was charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling and failing to comply with a release order. A homeowner at Water and Gordon called police after the two entered the house alleging their grandson had property that belonged to someone else.
A 36-year-old Guelph woman was arrested on a further charge of failing to appear in court after police were called to west-end apartment for a disturbance Saturday morning. Investigation revealed that one of the woman involved was wanted for missing a court date last month for robbery, break and enter, assault and other charges.
