There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 61-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats on Thursday night after a resident near Norfolk and Paisley reported a former roommate had attended and banged on a glass door while holding up a knife and uttering a threat.
A 40-year-old Guelph man was charged with mischief under $5,000 and assault with a weapon on Sunday afternoon after a man parked in a car in a Wellington Street lot got into it with another man.
A 46-year-old Guelph woman is charged with assault after an employee of a downtown establishment was slapped and bitten early Sunday.
A 29-year-old Guelph man was located and arrested this week for assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The arrest goes back to a December incident where a man was slashed with a knife by two men who were unknown to him downtown.
Break-Ins
Police are investigating after a townhouse unit near Edinburgh and Wilsonview was entered while the tenants slept. The resident said he went to bed at approximately 11 pm and when he awoke the front door was wide open and he saw footprints leading into the living room. Two sets of keys were noted to be missing. Just after 5 am on Sunday, the owner of a business near Gordon and Wellington called police to report that he could see someone on video inside his building but when officers arrived a short time later the suspect was gone and a small amount of cash was missing. The same thing happened 24 hours laster, except a tool was left behind by the suspect. The suspect is described as a white male, 5’10” with a medium to stocky build wearing a black or dark blue winter jacket with the hood up and a logo on the left chest, a royal blue hoodie underneath, black track pants with zippers on the thighs, black gloves, sunglasses and a black face covering. At 1:20 am on Sunday, police were called by an alarm company reporting a break-in at a business near Victoria and Grange where some tools were used to pry open a door and an interior metal gate, which led to a large quantity of cigarettes being stolen and loaded into the back of a vehicle. Drugs
A 40-year-old Caledon man is charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a controlled substance and obstructing police after a traffic stop last Saturday morning. The driver, who was a suspended driver, was detained and a search revealed quantities of suspected cocaine, Percocet pills, four cellphones, a digital scale and other drug paraphernalia, as well as $1,130 in cash.
Fraud
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre are warning the public about an ongoing phishing scam impersonating the RCMP. Unsolicited RCMP “delivery notices” are sent via text messages saying that the RCMP was unable to deliver court documents and ask to reschedule to avoid missing a court date. This is a scam because the RCMP does not issue notices by text messages. If you receive such a message, do not click the links and delete the text immediately.

Impaired Driving
A 25-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident on Cole Road late last Saturday afternoon where a parked car was struck and the offending driver fled the scene.
A 38-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and failing to provide a breath sample after police received information about an intoxicated male leaving an east-end business Sunday night. He was arrested at home and transported to the police station, where he repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample.
Theft
Another Toyota Tundra pick-up was stolen Friday morning in the area Washburn and Summit Ridge, the victim saw his grey 2022 truck get driven away followed by two black pick-up trucks just after 5 am. Shortly before 9 pm on Wednesday, police were called to the LCBO location on Paisley where an employee told police she recognized a man from previous incidents placing several bottles of alcohol in a bag, and he walked out with nine bottles. The suspect was described as a brown-skinned male, six feet tall with dark features and hair. He was wearing a black jacket, black jeans, black shoes and a balaclava and carrying a green and beige canvas bag. At approximately 11:40 pm on Wednesday police were called to a hotel near Laird and Southgate after a witness observed a man breaking into a pickup truck in the parking lot. A window was smashed and several tools, including drills, saws, socket sets and other tools with a total value of $3,000, were stolen. On Monday afternoon, a resident near Edinburgh and Water reported that his car, which was parked in a parking garage the previous afternoon, was missing. The vehicle was described as a black 2021 Honda Civic with chrome rims, a sunroof and tinted windows. It has a small dent on the rear under the Civic logo. A van, and approximately $10,000 worth of tools contained within it, were stolen from a Southgate Drive business sometime overnight between last Friday and last Saturday morning. The van is described as a white 1995 Ford F350 cube van had been stolen overnight from their lot. A 42-year-old Guelph man was arrested for failing to attend, after he was spotted by police Wednesday morning near York and Cityview. A search of the area revealed a black and green knapsack containing several pieces of fiber optic cable, which was seized for further investigation.
A 21-year-old Guelph man is charged with mischief under $5,000, theft under $5,000 and breaching a probation order on Monday morning after two people in a business on Edinburgh South tampered with the coin compartments of laundry machines and was able to remove one of them.
Traffic
At approximately 5:10 am on Thursday morning, emergency services were called to Woolwich Street south of Speedvale Avenue where a woman in her 30s was walking on the road wearing dark clothing when she was struck by a vehicle. The woman was airlifted to a Hamilton trauma centre in critical condition. Other Notes
A 41-year-old Kitchener man was charged with uttering threats, resisting arrest and public intoxication on Thursday night after police were called to a bar on Woodlawn West. Two patrons got into an altercation, and when security attempted to remove the suspect he claimed he had a gun and would shoot them. No weapon was located.
Two Guelph high school students used an artificial intelligence program to create nude images of several classmates. On January 13, police learned from a school administrator about students in possession of images and an investigation revealed two 15-year-old boys had used AI to create images of five female students using photos taken from the victims’ social media accounts. All five are aware of the investigation. The two subject males were remorseful for their actions and have been referred to an educational program through the John Howard Society in lieu of charges.
