There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 24-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of breaching a probation order on Thursday afternoon. Police were called to a downtown social service agency where one man accused another man of stealing his cigarettes, holding a knife to his neck in the process.
A 17-year-old Guelph man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failing to comply with a judicial release and two counts under the Cannabis Act including selling to an individual under 18. Police were called to a south-end high school with reports of someone selling pot to students, and he brandished what looked like a handgun in the washroom that turned out to be a BB gun. The school was briefly in lockdown, and the arrested youth was not a student at the school.
Break-Ins
At approximately 5:30 am Tuesday morning, a resident called 9-1-1 after observing suspects breaking into a business near Gordon and Lowes. One man smashed a window and entered the business and then passed product to a second man who placed it in the bed of a pickup. There was likely a third person who was driving. The first suspect was described as wearing a camouflage jacket, red hoodie and pants. The second was wearing all black, including a black winter coat. They were driving a newer white extended-cab pickup with a black tonneau cover and the licence plate covered. The truck was last seen westbound on Lowes Road. Police are investigating a possible break-in attempt at a business near Gordon and Wellington. On Monday morning, an employee arrived and found an exterior window smashed and a flashlight left behind. No entry was gained. At approximately 1:25 am last Friday, police received an alarm call for a business near Speedvale and Marksam. Officers arrived to find the front door had been pried open while a tobacco cabinet and several drawers were open but it was not immediately known what was taken. Drugs
Just before 6:30 pm on Sunday, emergency services were called to a business near Waterloo and Edinburgh after an injured male arrived asking for help. The man had gone to an apartment on Waterloo Avenue to buy drugs, and then he was siting in his car a short time later when two individuals approached, sprayed a noxious substance through the window and stole the drugs. Fraud

Impaired Driving
A 52-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving, and his licence was suspended for 90 days on Sunday evening after a collision on Auden Road. Three vehicles took severe damage and a fourth with moderate damage. No injuries were reported, but the suspect had three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
Theft
Police are still investigating the smash and grab robbery last Friday at a Stone Road Mall jewellery store. They are looking for four suspects (see below) described as:
- Male wearing an olive-green fleece-style hoodie, grey track pants, white running shoes with red and grey on the heel and a red sole, a medical mask and carrying a hammer and a can of spray
- Male wearing grey hoodie with a red logo on the left sleeve, possibly gloves with red or orange on them, black pants, white running shoes, black style duffle bag or knapsack and a medical mask
- Male wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black running shoes, black style duffle bag or knapsack and a medical mask
- Male wearing a black hoodie, black pants with white strip from the hip to the knee area on the right side, black running shoes, black style duffle bag or knapsack and a medical mask

At approximately 7:15 pm on Sunday, a man entered the LCBO store on Scottsdale and began concealing bottles of scotch in his jacket and he was then joined by a second man with a wheeled bag who placed 18 bottles of scotch inside and walked out of the store. In total, 20 bottles of alcohol were stolen. The first suspect is described as 5’7”, 35 to 40 years of age, 160 pounds and wearing a black jacket, blue scarf and blue hat and carrying a blue bag; and the second is 5’9”, 35 to 40, 180 pounds and wearing a black shirt, green khaki pants, red and black hat with Punisher logo and Converse shoes and pulling a blue roller bag. Less than an hour after that incident, two men entered the same store and made their way to the warehouse section where they began placing high-end products on a cart. They left out a rear door with 44 bottles of scotch and cognac. These suspects are described as 1) a Brown male with a beard, wearing a green jacket, grey sweatpants, checkered scarf and black and white shoes, and 2) a Brown male wearing a black jacket, black pants, black winter hat and white shoes. Police are still looking for three people who made off with $2,700 worth of alcohol from an east-end business on January 2 at 4 pm at a Speedvale Avenue East store. The first suspect was described as a white male wearing a blue and black coat, hoodie and Blue Jays baseball cap. The second was described as a possibly white male wearing a grey coat with black fur trim on the hood and dark pants. The third was a white female with blonde hair wearing a red coat with black fur trim on the hood and dark pants. On Thursday morning a resident near Woolwich and Division reported he had parked his white 2007 Rabbit two-door outside his residence the previous evening and it was gone when he went outside Thursday morning. A 32-year-old Guelph man was charged with robbery, administering a noxious substance and mischief after an incident last Saturday morning where police were called to an apartment building near Willow and Dawson for a concerning smell inside the building. It turned out that a canister of spray was let off during a struggle between two men, one of whom was trying to steal a woman’s purse.
Traffic
Guelph Police are looking to speak to witnesses after a motorist was struck and injured during a road rage incident Wednesday afternoon near Laird and Hanlon Creek. While one man was walking back to his vehicle he was struck by the other one. The victim in his 30s was transported to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries and his vehicle was also struck and damaged. The driver of a dark grey GMC Terrain fled the scene, it has a missing passenger-side mirror and have damage to the front passenger side. A 20-year-old Mississauga man was charged with careless driving after a car struck a light post, knocked it down and completely blocked the westbound lanes of Kortright Road at Ironwood. There were no injuries reported.
On Tuesday, a 32-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for two counts of theft under $5,000 for a series of thefts last summer. Eight individuals were eventually identified as working together during these incidents, and a 28-year-old Guelph man was previously arrested. Six others remain outstanding with warrants for their arrest and the investigation is ongoing.
Other Notes
A 30-year-old Guelph man is charged with mischief under $5,000, causing a disturbance and two counts of breaching a probation order last Friday after police were called to the provincial court house on Wyndham for reports of a man causing a disturbance, kicking in windows and yelling at staff. We later smashed a window and yelled at people at a restaurant and then yelled at families at a park.
