MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for January 16, 2025

It’s been a long two months since the last time the Transit Advisory Committee met, and the start of the new year seems to be bringing a lot of changes to regular order. At this meeting, the first one of 2025, we will meet some new staff members, hear about some fare changes and talk about all kinds of other transit businesses that might come up. Let’s get into what we do know about this meeting with the preview of the agenda!

NOTE #1: This meeting takes place at 5:30 pm in Committee Room A at City Hall. You can also find a link to attend the meeting virtually on the meeting agenda at the City’s website. (See below.)

NOTE #2: For alternate meeting formats please contact judi.prigione [at] guelph.ca or call 519-822-1260 ext. 3863.

Introduction and Welcome to Glenn Marcus, Acting General Manager – Robin Gerus, who is the permanent general manger of Guelph Transit, will introduce Marcus to the group, and maybe explain why he will be the new acting general manager. Gerus will also handle introductions on the next item too.

Introduction and Welcome to Ihor Witowych, Transit Operations Manager

Approval of the 2025 Meeting Dates of the Transit Advisory Committee – You can see the full schedule here, and you will note that the schedule seems pretty typical with the summer months off and meetings taking place on the third Thursday of the month.

Election of the 2024 Chair and 2024 Vice Chair of the Transit Advisory Committee – Now halfway through the council term it’s time to refresh the chair and vice-chair position. Adminstrative Assistant Judi Prigione will manage the vote.

TAC Members’ Feedback – As usual, the committee meeting agenda has put aside a while segment to tackle any feedback that members have heard and would like to share. Presently, it looks like no one on the committee has feedback, but maybe that will change before the start of the meeting.

Transit Fare Changes – A number of changes to transit fares went into effect on New Year’s Day including 5 cents added to the adult single ride, 15 cents to the adult day pass, and the adult monthly pass is $4.45 more. At the same time, there will be other changes to other fare programs starting February 1, including the pilot programs for seniors and youth and changes to the affordable bus pass. Courtney McDonald, Manager of Transit Business Service, will present.

General Transit Update, including Electric Buses – Management staff will be on-hand to offer updates on any pressing transit business that’s not been covered in any of the above topics and categories, and that includes the ongoing roll out of the new electric buses.
