City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the August 22 Meeting?

A council meeting in August?! Why yes, and not just one. The first of two city council meetings to take place in this normally slow summer month for council business will focus on a matter of hiring, and it involves city council staffing a job, then you know it can only be about one very specific job and it’s initials are C, A and O. So who will be the new top of the administrative pile at city hall?

NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to register with the clerks office before 10 am on Friday August 16. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.

NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.

CLOSED MEETING:

Review of the Chief Administrative Officer Recruitment, Selection and Performance Sub-committee’s recommended Chief Administrative Officer – As you may be aware, the City of Guelph has been without a Chief Administrative Officer since Scott Stewart retired in June. A group of council members, including the mayor, have been part of a sub-committee leading the effort to hire a new CAO, and that endeavour seems to be coming to a crescendo. There’s a meeting of the sub-committee on Tuesday August 13 and then it comes to this meeting a week after.

Since this topic is about “personal matters about an identifiable individual, including municipal or local board employees; labour relations or employee negotiations,” it will be discussed in-camera under section 239(2)(b)(d) of the Municipal Act and then a motion will likely be brought in the open session approving the hiring of the new CAO.
