There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 39-year-old Guelph woman for assault after she spat on an employee of a Stone Road business Tuesday evening.
A 37-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault after a security guard at a west end apartment building after interacting with two individuals attempting to visit a problem tenant in the building when the tenant pushed a heavy steel door into the victim’s back twice.
Break-Ins
Someone broke into a house on Brant Avenue that had been boarded up after a fire in 2023. A man ripped down a piece of fence to gain access to the backyard, then pulled two boards off a basement window and climbed inside. He was seen leaving a short time later with a socket set valued at approximately $100. An 18-year-old Guelph man was charged with another count of break and enter as well as breaching an undertaking after an alarm at a church last Saturday morning. A man was found nearby, and investigation revealed that he was on conditions not to attend the church after he was arrested in May for breaking into the building and stealing thousands of dollars in jewelry from the gift shop.
Drugs
Three Guelph men, two Guelph women and a man from Kitchener face charges including possession of a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing proceeds of crime, possessing a controlled substance and breaching court orders. On Wednesday afternoon, the Break Enter Auto Theft Unit executed a search warrant at a home near Willow and Applewood and recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun with an extended magazine, a small amount of cocaine and more than $5,000 in cash.
Fraud
On Thursday, a Guelph woman in her 70s told police that she had received a call from someone identifying himself as a lawyer and requesting assistance with getting someone out on bail, but could not remember the details of the conversation. The victim attended her bank and withdrew $5,800 cash, telling staff it was for a vacation. and then went to a south end convenience store where she put the cash into a Bitcoin machine. Police remind you to be careful dealing with people you don’t know on the phone.

Impaired Driving
A 42-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after police got a report about a possible impaired driver leaving a north end business early last Saturday morning.
A 34-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after police were called to the scene of a collision Sunday evening at a parking lost near Clair and Gordon. When tested, the driver had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Theft
On Wednesday at 12:30 pm, a man stole expensive steak tenderloins and some chicken from what sounds like the Zehrs on Imperial. He’s described as white, mid- to late-40s, black and grey curly hair and reading glasses. He was wearing a black t-shirt, denim shorts and black biker gloves and carrying a black backpack and a second backpack described as white with pink animals all over it. An Elora man had his wallet taken from his car when it was parked at a friend’s house near College and the Hanlon. The thief then went on a shopping spree, and there were eight transactions totalling nearly $500 before the victim was able to cancel the cards. Police are investigating after two women were caught on video stealing almost $1,900 worth of cosmetics and other items Sunday evening at a business near Woolwich and Speedvale. The first suspect was described as white, 18 to 25 years, 5’3” to 5’7” with a slim build. She was wearing a pink shirt and light purple baseball cap and carrying a beach bag with a blue bottom. The second was described as white, 18 to 25, 5’3” to 5’7” with an average build. She was wearing a black Adidas hat and carrying a beach bag with a red or pink bottom. A man was walking through a laneway between Cork and Quebec just after midnight on Saturday morning when he was approached by two men. One grabbed the victim in a choke hold while the other struck him in the in the torso and legs, and the other grabbed the victim’s black Swiss Army backpack and ran from the area. The backpack included a tablet and small amount of cash. One was described as a white, approximately 20, 5’10” with a stocky build and short blonde hair and wearing a black shirt and jeans. Traffic
A 50-year-old Guelph man is charged with driving while prohibited and theft under $5,000 after police conducted a traffic stop near Speedvale and Metcalfe. Investigation revealed the driver is currently prohibited and was also wanted for theft from another jurisdiction.
Four different motorists were taken off the road for doing between 41 and 55 kilometres per hour over the posted speed limits at various locations in Guelph last weekend including an Oakville man who was caught riding his motorcycle 105 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 zone on Kortright Road West just before 7 pm last Saturday.
Other Notes
On Wednesday evening police were called to an address near Simmonds and Inverness. Investigation revealed a seven-year-old girl was playing at Wilson Farm Park when she decided to walk the short distance to her home. As she walked, a male drove beside her and the driver leaned over to open the passenger door. The girl became scared and ran home. The man was described as white, 50 to 60 years of age, bald, clean shaven and driving a black midsized car. An 18-year-old Guelph woman is charged with failing to comply with an undertaking, after police were called to Westwood and Willow Tuesday morning where several young people were fighting. During the investigation officers seized a Glock-style BB gun, pepper spray and a knife, but the female suspect was on an undertaking with a no-weapons condition.
A 43-year-old Guelph man is charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling and breaching a probation order after police found him sleeping in a vacant house near Victoria andYork early Monday morning.
