MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for April 18, 2024

Time to catch the bus, or rather the committee that advises about the buses. The April agenda for the Transit Advisory Committee looks suspiciously like the March agenda, but with one additional item. Once again, TAC will look at chimes, and ridership concerns, and general updates, but they will also hear about a proverbial meeting of local transit minds. So let’s dig into the details as we look forward to next week’s meeting.

NOTE #1: This meeting takes place at 5:30 pm in Committee Meeting Room A at City Hall and you can also watch it online via a link provided in the meeting agenda.

NOTE #2: For alternate meeting formats please contact judi.prigione [at] guelph.ca or call 519-822-1260 ext. 3863.

Update: Preset Audio Message Chime Introduction – Last month, staff brought a report to the committee about a chime that will ring when an important message needs to be delivered to bus riders like “move to the back” or “exit through the rear doors.” This same item is coming to the Accessibility Advisory Committee this week for their input, but when TAC heard the chime at March’s meeting they asked for more options, and this verbal report will deliver them. No written report was attached to the agenda.

Summary of the April 2, 2024 Meeting with the Transit Action Alliance of Guelph (TAAG) – It looks like there was a meeting of the minds on transit earlier this month as members of TAAG sat down with members of TAC. Chair Susan Carey, general manager Robin Gerus and supervisor of scheduling and service planning Laura Catalano-Bragues will report the results of that meeting. No written report was attached to the agenda.

TAC Members’ Feedback – This the monthly opportunity for members of the committee to ask questions about current service issues. There’s nothing on the agenda yet.

General Transit Update, including Electric Buses – Management staff will be on-hand to offer updates on any pressing transit business that’s not been covered in any of the above topics and categories, and that includes the ongoing roll out of the new electric buses.
