Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
Police are looking for a black male, mid-30s, with a slim build and black hair wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. On Thursday at 11:20 pm, the suspect pulled a knife on an employee at a bar at Silvercreek and Speedvale over a dispute with the bill. He was last seen heading eastbound on Speedvale on foot. A 59-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault and assault by choking after attacking his new roommate early on Thursday morning just hours after moving in. The victim had a bottle of alcohol, which the new roommate demanded they start consuming. After a few hours of drinking together, the accused approached his roommate and punched him twice in the abdomen before grabbing him by the throat. The victim was able to break free and retreat to his room to call police. The suspect was released on a condition that he not return to his now former residence.
A 33-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault and assault causing bodily harm after two men were accosted while waiting in line at a bar downtown early last Saturday morning. One man was picked up and thrown to the ground, striking his head and briefly losing consciousness. He was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
A 33-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon early on Christmas morning. An adult man was outside a downtown establishment when he became involved in a verbal altercation with another man. The second man struck the victim in the face with an unopened beverage can, which caused a laceration next to the victim’s eye that began to bleed. The suspect was later arrested at a home in the south end.
A 23-year-old Guelph man was charged with two counts of sexual assault. A 17-year-old girl reported that she had been assaulted twice on Thursday afternoon by a ride share driver who picked her up at school, took her to two different parking lots and assaulted her at each stop before dropping her off at home. Despite threats to keep quiet, she came forward after going to school Friday morning and seeing the suspect in the area.
A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose after a man was stabbed in the neck at a bar on Silvercreek Parkway North. The victim was taken to a trauma centre out of town with a serious but not-life threatening injury. The two men were not known to each other.

Impaired Driving
A 48-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving on Wednesday morning, and his licence was suspended for 90 days after police spotted a man leaving a business on Speedvale East and get into the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was parked on an angle. The smell of alcohol was on his breath, and testing revealed that he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 23-year-old Guelph man was charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent, careless driving and being a novice driver with alcohol in his system. On Thursday at 2 am, police were called to Edinburgh and Youngman where a car had gone off the road and hit a hydro poll. The man had borrowed his roommate’s car to get coffee after taking out the garbage.
A 40-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and his licence was suspended for 90 days after a passerby called police early last Saturday morning about a car stopped in the middle of the road in the area of Willow and Bonar. The driver was asleep behind the wheel.
A 26-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving, failing to provide a breath sample, assault police, failing to attend court, fail to remain at a collision, driving while suspended and driving without insurance. On Sunday afternoon, police were called to Rhonda Road where a car had collided with a tree. A witness said that he saw a woman exit the vehicle with a bottle of alcohol and enter a nearby house. She was wanted, had been driving while suspended and without insurance, and when she was taken to the hospital after complaining about a medical issues, she became belligerent and bit an officer’s finger.
Theft
Three Brampton men aged 40, 29 and 25 were arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 after they were found in possession of more than $1,000 in [checks notes] stolen butter on Sunday afternoon. The men visited at least two grocery stores in the south end, and officers recovered 144 sticks of butter and 17 containers of ghee butter. One of the suspects has also charged with obstructing police after giving officers a fake name.
A 22-year-old Oakville woman was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 after a delivery company’s internal investigation into missing items from a shipping centre pointed at one of their own delivery drivers. Some $13,000 worth of stolen cellphones and other items were located in her truck.
Traffic
At approximately 4 am on Friday, police were notified about a collision on Victoria near Hadati after a passerby reported a damaged vehicle unoccupied in the middle of the road. The car was a red sedan, pushed out of the drive way by the white 2004 GMC Sierra pickup that was parked in front of it. It was truck that was stolen, and it was last seen heading southbound on Victoria with damage to the rear end.
