There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
At 2 am last Saturday, police were called to a disturbance on Macdonell Street and found a male lying on the ground bleeding from his head and mouth. Video showed the victim falling to the ground and then being punched and kicked. The suspects were described as a white male in a light-coloured sweater and a black male in a black puffy coat. A 20-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and careless use of a firearm. Just after midnight on Friday, a man was thrown out of a downtown bar for an altercation inside and while he was being removed, another patron commented that he had a firearm and had pointed it at them. A security guard quickly disarmed and restrained the man until police arrived. A BB gun and ammunition were recovered.
A 41-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault and breaching a bail condition after he punched the owner of a business in the nose and drawing blood last Friday. A man and woman were arguing outside the business near Woodlawn and Woolwich when police came by, and an investigation revealed that the man was on bail with a condition not to communicate with the woman.
A 41-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault police, theft under $5,000, causing a disturbance and breaching probation last Friday after a police officer was punched in the face while trying to arrest a shoplifter at a business near Paisley and Elmira.
Break-Ins
On Wednesday morning a passerby noticed a broken glass door at a business on Gordon Street near Edinburgh Road South. A cash register containing cash and a card reader were stolen. An employee arrived at work near Gordon Street and Lowes Road Wednesday morning to find the glass front door broken. A cash box had been stolen and the preliminary investigation revealed that three suspects were involved and they left in a white vehicle, possibly a Mustang. A 34-year-old Guelph man is charged with break and enter and breaching probation for a September 2 break-in at a Marilyn Drive apartment building. He went to the management office and stole more than 20 rent cheques by reaching in through the mail slot.
Drugs
On Thursday, a 49-year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged with eight counts of possessing a weapon contrary to an order, possessing stolen property over $5,000, two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon and unauthorized possession of a firearm. This is the 10th person to be arrested in connection to a search warrant executed on August 30 that netted $20,000 worth of drugs, plus firearms, other weapons, and stolen goods. The man was already in custody on other charges.

Impaired Driving
A 38-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired driving and her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days on Monday evening after someone complained about a vehicle driving erratically in the middle of the road and almost sideswiping another vehicle. The driver had nearly three times the legal amount of alcohol in their system.
A 18-year-old Markham man turned himself in to police Sunday night and was arrested for impaired driving, dangerous driving and obstructing police for a collision on Gordon near Waterloo last Saturday night. Officers obtained surveillance video that proved the second occupant of the SUV, who denied on scene that he was driving, was actually the one behind the wheel after his friend, another 18-year-old Markham man, was arrested Saturday night.
A 21-year-old man from the Barrie area is charged with impaired driving, and his licence was suspended for 90 days after trying to avoid a RIDE spot check near Wellington and McCrae early last Sunday morning.
A 51-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving after witnesses reported a vehicle being driven erratically last Saturday evening near Victoria and Decorso. When police arrived, they observed a vehicle approximately 15 metres off the road against a tree with considerable damage.
Theft
A white 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was stolen from a driveway on Downey Road near Teal sometime overtime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. If you have any information, call Special Constable Tom Randell at 519-824-1212, ext. 7194, email him at trandell [at] guelphpolice.ca.
Approximately $2,500 worth of fragrances were stolen from a business near Scottsdale and Stone Sunday afternoon by two men, one distracted a clerk while the other placed a large number of perfume bottles into a reusable bag. The males were both described as white, in their 20s, 5’8” – 5’10” with average builds. One had facial hair and was wearing a blue, white and red Tommy Hilfiger jacket. The other had brown hair which was shaved on the sides and longer on top and was wearing a black puffy jacket. Traffic
There were 22 collisions around Guelph during the first winter storm of the year. A 51-year-old Guelph man was charged with careless driving after being involved with two of them; one in the afternoon where the driver lost control of his truck and drove up on a front lawn on Vancouver Drive knocking down a sign in the process, and the other at 8 pm were the man lost control and hit a utility pole on Meyer Drive.
Other Note
On Wednesday afternoon, a man driving a dark blue SUV lowered his window and asked a 14-year-old girl where she lived and then offered her a ride. The girl didn’t respond and ran away, but the man followed her for a short time before making a U-turn and driving away. This happened near College Avenue West and Hanlon Road. The man is described as being in his 30s with tanned skin, short greying hair, a thin build and disheveled appearance wearing a black or blue winter jacket. A 30-year-old Guelph male was arrested and charged with possessing child pornography, making child pornography available and accessing child pornography. Members of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit along with members of the Technological Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at a house located near Speedvale and Delhi, seizing several devices in the process.
A 37-year-old Guelph man and 37-year-old Guelph woman were each charged with failing to comply with a release order after a traffic stop early Tuesday morning. The man was on bail with house arrest terms to reside at an address in Elliot Lake, while the woman was on bail with a condition she remain in her residence between 10 pm and 7 am.
