There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
Police are looking for witnesses to an incident on Macdonell Street near the West Parkade last Saturday night at 9:30 pm. A male in his 50s was assaulted by several young people, and the victim was transported to hospital and admitted with a serious head injury. A 28-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault, resisting arrest and two counts of breaching a probation order on Monday afternoon. The victim was sitting on a bench on Quebec Street when he was kicked without provocation. The suspect then punched two or three other people in the face, however those victims were unwilling to provide a statement.
Break-Ins
On Thursday officers attended a business near Kingsmill Avenue and York Road. The owner reported that unknown individuals broke into the fenced compound and removed approximately $1,000 worth of copper wire from old refrigeration units stored outside on the property. Drugs
A 27-year-old man from East Garafraxa is facing more than three dozen charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing stolen property and numerous counts of breaching court orders. On Monday afternoon police observed a stolen Mazda on Woolwich and followed. They arrested the suspect after a brief foot chase, and a search revealed suspected cocaine, fentanyl, crystal meth and prescription opiates with a total value of approximately $12,000 plus more than $4,300 in cash. They also recovered was drug paraphernalia, bear spray and several pieces of stolen identification and mail.
A 37-year-old Guelph man was charged with criminal harassment and possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking after a man reported to police Monday that had received dozens of unwanted calls, texts and emails from a man known to him. The suspect also attended the man’s apartment building but was unsuccessful in his attempt to gain entry. When police caught up with the suspect, a search of his vehicle revealed a fanny pack containing approximately $850 worth of suspected crystal meth.

Impaired Driving
A 38-year-old Guelph woman was charged with impaired driving and dangerous driving and her licence was suspended for 90 days early Friday morning. An SUV collided with a cement post near Gordon and Wellington, then swerved out of its lane and hit a pole on a centre median before crossing the lane and striking another post at the entrance to Royal City Park. She had three times the legal limit in her system.
A 30-year-old Guelph woman was charged with impaired driving and Highway Traffic Act offences, plus her licence was suspended for 90 days, after police stopped a pickup truck leaving Grange Road at a high rate of speed on Wednesday afternoon.
A 42-year-old Oakville man was charged with impaired driving, flight from police, dangerous driving, breaching a release order and several Highway Traffic Act offences, oh, and his licence was suspended for 90 days after a pursuit with police early on Thursday morning. An automated licence plate reader pinged on a vehicle registered to a man who was wanted in another jurisdiction for assault and other charges, he was out on bail with a condition not to have contact with a women who was a passenger in the vehicle.
A 65-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days after a proactive enforcement near Willow and Silvercreek on Tuesday afternoon.
A 44-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and his licence was suspended for 90 days after someone reported a van driving slowly and swerving from side to side on Maltby Road. When the van eventually came to a stop, the witness passed it and noted the driver looked to be unconscious. The driver was taken to the hospital.
A 20-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving and possessing stolen property over $5,000 after an officer on patrol spotted a tractor with plow attachment being driven on Wellington near McCrae. The tractor was stopped and the driver was observed to be showing signs of impairment. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests confirmed his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drugs. The tractor was seized.
Theft
On November 19, three men and a woman entered a store at Woodlawn and Woolwich and walked around separately with one of them filling a shopping cart. Two of the men attempted to distract staff while the third walked our with the cart, setting off security alarms. In the cart was nearly $6,500 worth of Pokemon cards! Last Saturday afternoon, a business Elmira and Wilbert reported that a truck and trailer had been stolen from their lot sometime in the previous two days after a padlock was cut off the front gates. They were then contacted by a Milton business that found the missing truck and noted damage to the ignition. Other Notes
On Wednesday a 13-year-old boy was arrested for making a false alarm for an incident earlier this month where he pulled a fire alarm in the parkade at Stone Road Mall. Security officials recognized him as he has been banned from the mall several times and repeatedly breached this order.
A 26-year-old Guelph man was arrested Wednesday and charged with possessing and making child pornography following a five-month investigation that resulted in search warrant being served in a residence near Huron and Oliver. A cellphone was seized and images and videos meeting the definition of child pornography were located, and there was evidence found of child sexual abuse videos being recorded from another device.
A 35-year-old Guelph man was charged with failing to comply with a DNA order after failing to show up at Guelph Police headquarters to give a DNA sample for the national databank as part of his sentence.
A 44-year-old Guelph woman is further charged with arson and failing to comply with a release order for setting two fires in the south end last Saturday afternoon. A resident observed two fires along a walking path near Farley and Beaver Meadow approximately five metres from nearby houses. Dry leaves and garbage had been set on fire. The suspect was free on bail after getting accused of setting two garbage bins on fire downtown in June.
