There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Homicide
A 20-year-old Guelph man was charged with second-degree murder in the case of dead woman found in a motel near Woolwich and Woodlawn. The suspect was located at a business near York and Victoria on Tuesday and arrested.
Assault
A 43-year-old Guelph man was charged with failing to comply with a release order, breaching probation and assaulting a police office after police were called to a business on Woodlawn West Tuesday morning. The man there was harassing staff and customers even though he was barred from attending the business on a bail order. He kicked an officer in the leg after he was taken to the station.
A 19-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault, assault with a weapon and breaching an undertaking after going back downtown and violating a release condition in the process. On Sunday evening, police were called to a house on Suffolk where a teenaged female was punched and struck in the face with a paddle. She did not sustain any injuries.
A 50-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing a prohibited weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of possessing a controlled substance and several counts of breaching probation last Friday when he allegedly shot a man he knew with a BB gun.
Break-Ins
Police were called to a school near Woodlawn and Inverness on Wednesday morning after someone broke-in and took eight Dell laptops from a classroom at around 11 pm the night before. He was wearing a white hoodie, dark jeans, white shoes and a black backpack. Police are looking for a man in his 20s or 30s with a slim build and possibly a short dark beard. He was wearing a jacket with reflective logo, Ecko-brand sweatpants, work boots and a baseball cap and was carrying a skateboard with graffiti designs. He broke into a building under construction near Edinburgh and Water at 3 am last Saturday and stole a welding rig and grinder.
Police are looking for a man described as wearing a Toronto Blue Jays jacket, blue hoodie with the hood up, sunglasses, a black face covering, green gloves and jeans with a cuff at the bottom. A piece of concrete was used to gain entry to a business near Paisley and Imperial by smashing the front glass door and a quantity of cash was taken from the register. A 46-year-old Guelph woman was charged with two counts of break and enter and making a false alarm of fire after fulling the fire alarm in a downtown apartment building on Wyndham Street North at 4:30 am on Friday. The woman was seen entering a couple of apartments in the process.
A 36-year-old Guelph man was arrested based on a identification on social media. On October 9, a man and a woman were caught on surveillance video breaking into a shed at a childcare centre near Woodlawn and Nicklin. The owner posted a picture of the two on social media, and the woman was arrested on Wednesday downtown and charged with break and enter and theft under $5,000.
A 39-year-old Guelph woman faces additional charges of possessing break-in tools and three counts of breaching probation, on top of previous charges for break and enter and breaching probation. Police saw her downtown early Monday morning and knew that she was wanted on previous charges.
Drugs
A 25-year-old Toronto woman faces several counts of possessing a weapon and possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking as well as possessing stolen property and breaching court orders. Police spotted a woman wanted by another police service last Friday evening, and when they checked her rental car they found suspected crystal meth, fentanyl and cocaine, a switchblade knife, bear spray, brass knuckles and several credit cards and identity documents in other people’s names. The controlled substances had an estimated value of $10,000.
Fraud
A 24-year-old Guelph woman was charged with three counts of uttering a forged document, two counts of possessing identity documents and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking after trying to open a line of credit at a south end bank. An employee got suspicious when the woman presented a temporary bank card that was issued from a Mississauga branch earlier that day. She was found later by police in possession of the bank card and various identity documents in a fake name plus a cheque for more than $230,000 made out to the same name.

Impaired Driving
A 29-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days after police stopped an SUV near Wellington and Gordon on Thursday afternoon. The driver had three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 38-year-old Guelph woman was charged with impaired driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian, plus her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days after a pedestrian was struck at a crossing at Gordon and Waterloo on Wednesday evening. A four-year-old child was in the car at the time at the time of the collision.
An 18-year-old Cambridge man was charged with impaired driving, refusing to comply with a demand, dangerous driving and several charges under the Cannabis Control Act after a car collided with a storage container on Grange near Starwood last Friday morning. Officers arrived and found a male passed out with the vehicle still in the Drive position, and an open bag of cannabis and contaminated smoking devices was found in the car.
Theft
A white Hyundai Sonata stolen from Waterloo Region last weekend was found in the area of Scottsdale and Wilsonview on Thursday evening. Video surveillance showed a man exiting and walking away through the townhouse complex. He was described as a white male with slim to medium build and wearing a white hoodie, dark jacket, light pants, white shoes, a light-coloured fanny pack with dark strap and a light-coloured baseball cap. A white 2012 Volvo transport truck stolen from Peel Region was found on Corporate Court around 2 am on Tuesday morning. The licence plates and identifying numbers on the side of the truck had been removed, and the top of the dashboard and steering column had been damaged, exposing the wires underneath. Traffic
A 75-year-old Guelph was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm or death under the Highway Traffic Act. On Tuesday morning, a 20-year-old woman was struck by a Ford commercial van at Kortright and Rickson. The woman was transported to a Hamilton trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, and the man remained at the scene. A 43-year-old Toronto woman turned herself in to Guelph Police on Monday, and was charged with flight from police, dangerous driving and driving while suspended in connection an incident on October 18 when a driver evaded a police traffic stop by driving away at 120 kilometres per hour.
