There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Homicide
An investigation into a dead woman found at a north end hotel is now an investigation into Guelph’s third homicide of the year. Emergency services were called to the Wayfare Hotel on Woodlawn on Sunday morning where a woman in her 50s was found deceased, and through a post-mortem examination it was determined that this is a case of homicide. Assault
Police are looking for a male described as white, six feet tall with a goatee who accosted two people at Woodlawn Memorial Park last Thursday afternoon. When the friends arrived, an unknown man approached their vehicle and began banging on the side window with his fist. When the victim began exiting the vehicle he was thrown to the ground and grabbed by the throat. The male also banged on the roof of the car and told the victim he would kill him if he saw him again. A 39-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault, assault with a weapon and failing to attend court after officers went to an address near Victoria and Brant on Thursday. When they arrived, they found a man that was not only wanted for failing to appear in court on two counts of driving while prohibited, but he was also wanted on assault charges from earlier in the week when he knocked a woman to the ground and threatened her.
An 18-year-old Guelph woman was located Tuesday and arrested for assaulting a police officer. She had spit in an officer’s face, striking her in the mouth and nose area while being escorted to Guelph General Hospital last month.
Break-Ins
A 39-year-old Guelph man was charged with break and enter and breaching probation for the October 1 theft of $2,500 in tools from a house near Paisley and Norfolk under renovation.
Drugs
A 29-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing a prohibited weapon, possessing a controlled substance and three counts of failing to comply with a release order after police were asked to check the wellbeing of a male at an address on Willow Road last Friday evening. An investigation revealed that the male was bound by a term of house arrest and not supposed to attend the Willow address or communicate with the woman who lives there. A search revealed two knives – including one which opens with a spring and is therefore a prohibited weapon – and several Morphine pills.
Fraud

Impaired Driving
A 22-year-old Cambridge woman was charged with impaired operation, and her driver’s licence was suspended for 45 days after a vehicle was spotted mounting a median on Macdonell Street and damaging a rear tire in the process at around 1 am on Thursday morning.
A 43-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired operation, and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days after an SUV was caught speeding in the area of Paisley Road and the Hanlon Expressway Monday evening. Testing at police headquarters revealed he had nearly four times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
A 58-year-old Guelph woman was charged with impaired operation, and her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, after a witness reported a car driving erratically, and repeatedly striking the curb while almost hitting several poles last Saturday evening. Officers located the vehicle in a driveway on Victoria Road North and observed a woman sleeping in the driver’s seat. Testing revealed that she had three-times the legal amount of alcohol in her system.
A 38-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft of motor vehicle, dangerous driving, impaired driving, failing to stop at a collision and refusing to provide a breath sample. He stole a woman’s car after appearing to be in distress a parking lot on Elmira Road last Saturday morning.
A 24-year-old Ottawa woman was charged with impaired driving, failing to stop at a collision, taking a motor vehicle without consent and three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking after a collision at Victoria and Elizabeth last Saturday morning. He struck a concrete barrier and then she fled on foot before arriving at a Grange Road address and knocked on the door there. A search revealed quantities of suspected cocaine and Oxycontin and more than 200 assorted prescription medications in a large Ziplock bag.
Theft
Police are investigating after several fraudulent transactions were done using a credit car stolen from a car parked at a home near College and Janefield. The victim’s bicycle, which is black with OPUS in silver writing, was also taken. It is believed the garage was entered late Monday or early Tuesday. Police are looking for a white female wearing a red parka-style jacket with fur on the hood and a small patch on the left arm wearing black leggings, white running shoes and black socks. She was caught on video at the rear patio of a business near Wellington and Gordon at 6:20 am on Tuesday morning, cutting the lock and then walking away with a motorized scooter valued at $700. A 37-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing stolen property under $5,000 after he was spotted downtown Thursday morning riding a blue and pink Marin bicycle that had been reported stolen from a north end residence earlier this week.
A 33-year-old Guelph man was arrested after being found behind the wheel of a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta just outside Mitchell Tuesday afternoon. The car was stolen while it was idling outside a business on Wellington Street East at 2:40 am that morning.
A 50-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing a prohibited weapon, two counts of possessing controlled substances and several counts of breaching probation and driving while suspended after police found the man sitting in a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer that had been stolen from Listowel at 2 am on Sunday morning. A search revealed a small baggie of suspected fentanyl, a larger amount of suspected crystal meth and a spring-assisted knife.
Traffic
An officer on patrol near York and Watson at 1:30 pm Wednesday afternoon detected a vehicle registered to a suspended driver thanks to the automated licence plate reader. While it looked like the car was going to stop, it ended up taking off at a high rate of speed and it was last seen heading southbound on Victoria Road South at more than 120 kilometres per hour. Police are looking for a cyclist that was involved in a collision with a car on Thursday morning at 7:30 at Speedvale and Silvercreek. The cyclist – who’s described as a white male with white hair. He was wearing a green sweater, tan pants, a black toque and glasses – seemed to suffer an injury but left the scene before police arrived. Emergency services were called to a business on Woodlawn Road West on Monday morning after a 74-year-old male pedestrian was hit by a coffee truck backing up. He was transported to hospital by ambulance with a minor head injury, and no charges were laid.
A 19-year-old Guelph woman was charged with dangerous driving and mischief under $5,000 after police were called to Stone and Scottsdale last Friday morning. A woman driving her father’s car rammed a parked car, which caused both cars to fall two metres before the victim’s car was pushed into a field. Obviously, the car was destroyed.
Other Notes
A 19-year-old Guelph man was charged with causing a disturbance and he will have to stay away from downtown for the duration after police arrested him Thursday night for screaming and threatening staff and patrons at several downtown establishments and refusing to leave when asked.
