POLICE NOTES: Homecoming Results, Stolen Pokemon Cards and Another Fake Gun

There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

***Please note that not all offenses and police calls are reported in the daily Guelph Police media release.

Mostly Quiet Homecoming For Police

Although there were about 4,500 people on Chancellors Way at the peak of Homecoming celebrations last Saturday, police report that there were no major incidents. Between 7 am Saturday and 7 am Sunday, police responded to 352 calls for service. This represents an approximate 30 per cent increase over the same time period on an average weekend. A 22-year-old Toronto woman was arrested for four counts of assaulting police, but none of the officers were injured, and there was a separate incident where an officer was struck in the next with what’s believed to be a beer bottle, but that officer wasn’t injured either. Officers laid a total of 21 tickets, almost all of them for possessing open alcohol in public, and the joint RIDE program Saturday with the OPP stopped 2,000 vehicles. Six drivers asked to provide breath samples, however none resulted in impaired driving charges.

He was wearing a black or navy blue sweatshirt, light grey track pants and white shoes.
