There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Police Investigating Homicide in the West End
Police were called to a residence in the area of Waterloo and Woodycrest on Tuesday night at 10:10 pm responding to reports of gun shots. Upon arrival, police located a 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound who was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators believe this to be a targeted incident. The suspects were described as two black males with all dark clothing.

Police are also looking for anyone who was in the area and has dashcam or security camera footage for between 9 and 11 pm that night. Assault
A 17-year-old Guelph male was charged with assault, consuming alcohol under age and being intoxicated in a public place after he approached a group of people on Wyndham North early Thursday morning, and shoved a person he didn’t know to the ground causing injury.
A 33-year-old Guelph woman was charged with assault on Wednesday afternoon police were called to a park on Dovercliffe Road. A man got into an argument with a woman about her dog’s behaviour, and during that argument the man was bitten by the woman’s dog before the woman punched the victim twice in the neck area and then ripped his shirt.
A 37-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault and criminal harassment after an employee reported several instances of unwanted contact at her workplace with a man who, among other things, grabbed her arm and tried to make her sit down with him for lunch. He also followed her at work and tried to contact her via social media, though she never gave him her name.
A 17-year-old Guelph man was located and arrested for assault with a weapon after two men got into an argument in a parking lot near Willow and Dawson. During the argument, the younger one removed his belt and whipped the victim twice causing a minor injury to his arm. The victim, who is in his 70s, declined medical treatment.
A 19-year-old Guelph woman was arrested for assault after she kicked a security guard in the groin and then punching him in the face while being ejected from a licensed establishment downtown last Saturday morning before last call.
Break-Ins
The Guelph Police Service are looking for three suspects who broke into a business near Silvercreek and Woodlawn around 1 am on Wednesday. They broke in through a rear window and stole a quantity of Milwaukee and DeWalt tools valued at between $7,000 to $10,000. The suspects were described as white males of average height and build. One was wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants, one was wearing a white t-shirt, jeans and a white hat and one was wearing dark shorts and a dark t-shirt. All three were wearing gloves and masks. There’s a no description of a fourth suspect who stayed one of the vehicles, which were described as a white cargo van and red sedan. Four suspects in two vehicles broke into a business near Woodlawn and Imperial at around 7:15 am Tuesday morning. They got access to the store by using a hammer to smash the glass door and they took a variety of electronic equipment worth approximately $10,000. The suspects were described as four brown-skinned males in their 20s. Three were 5’9” to 6’ tall with larger builds and the fourth was shorter and had a slim build. They arrived in a white BMW sedan and a black Ford F150 pick-up. Two Toronto-area males, aged 32 and 31, were each charged with two counts of break and enter, possessing stolen property over $5,000 and possessing stolen property under $5,000 after police stopped a break and enter in progress Thursday morning. The owner of the Wellington Street business called police to report the break-in as three men arrived in a stolen BMW SUV, backed it up through the front doors, and loaded approximately $10,000 worth of tools and copper wire into the rear of the car. Police are still looking for the third man described as having brown skin, early 30s with a slim build and short black hair.
Two Guelph men, aged 58 and 43, and a 54-year-old Guelph woman are charged with break and enter and mischief, while the younger man is also charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking. The trio tried to break into a garage near York and Watson Parkway using various power tools and when searched police found quantities of suspected fentanyl, crystal meth and cash on one of the suspects.

Impaired Driving
A 23-year-old Guelph woman was charged with impaired driving. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days after police were called about a parked vehicle that was struck near Clairfields and Gibbs early last Saturday. Officers located a women sitting in her car crying and detected the strong odour of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. Testing showed that she had twice the legal limit in her system.
Theft
On Wednesday September 6, police were called to the Art Gallery of Guelph after staff noticed that a bronze sculpture entitled “Feather” had been stolen. The piece is a 2.4-metre tall crow’s feather. It was created in 1997 by prominent Canadian sculptor John Greer (see left), and due to the size and weight of the sculpture, it is believed at least two people with a large vehicle were involved in the theft. Police were called Sunday after a 2022 black Lexus RX350 was stolen from the area of Goodwin and Beaver Meadow Drive sometime overnight, but at least the child’s car seat was removed by the suspect and left on the victim’s porch. A food delivery driver had his car stolen after leaving his keys in the ignition to pick up an order from a downtown restaurant at 2 am on Sunday. The grey 2018 Chevrolet Spark was last seen southbound on Gordon near Water Street. Guelph Police are looking for three suspects who stole more than $11,000 worth of sports cards from a Woodlawn West business last Friday evening; more than 200 packages of NFL and NBA trading cards in large totes, put them into shopping carts and exited out a fire door. Here’s the description of the three suspects:
- white female, 5’8” with a medium build and red hair. She was wearing a light blue long-sleeved shirt, blue leggings and white shoes.
- white male, 5’9” to 5’10” with a medium build and short black hair. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with red sleeves, grey shorts and black basketball shoes.
- white male, 6’2” with a medium to large build. He was wearing a white shirt with black lettering, blue jeans, sunglasses and grey shoes.

A 35-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft under $5,000 and obstructing police after a loss prevention office stopped a man with several boxes of trading cards in his backpack that he didn’t pay for. He initially gave police a fake name before being threatened with a night jail. The cards he tried to take from the Woodlawn Road store had a value of $1,000.
A 17-year-old Guelph man was charged with robbery and wearing a disguise while committing an offence after entering a west-end pharmacy wearing a black ski mask and asking for opiates, which the staff refused to give him.
Traffic
Shortly after 5 pm on Thursday afternoon, a woman reported to police that she had been rear-ended at Victoria and York by another vehicle that fled the scene immediately after. The suspect vehicle was described as a beige or gold mid-2000s Dodge Caravan with front-end damage. The driver was a white male in his 20s. A 20-year-old Brampton woman was charged with speeding, stunt driving and failing to surrender her licence, and her licence was immediately suspended for 30 days after police cauhgt her driving 136 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone on Maltby Road West.
