There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 23-year-old Guelph woman was charged with assault and two counts of assault with a weapon on Tuesday afternoon after she grabbed some silverware and assaulted two staff members plus another resident at her group home in the south end.
A 15-year-old Guelph male was charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000 and breaching an undertaking after shooting pellets at a neighbour’s house Sunday evening and breaking a window.
A 44-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft under $5,000, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a weapon for an incident at Value Village on Silvercreek Sunday afternoon. A man stopped for shoplifting took out a firearm from his waistband in the back office, and though it turned out to be a pellet gun, the store was evacuated as a precaution. He had quantities of crystal meth, cocaine and Oxycodone on him, as well as drug paraphernalia and cash, when he was taken into custody.
Break-Ins
Police are looking for information about a break-in at a restaurant near Silvercreek and Speedvale last Friday morning. The glass front door was broken with an unknown tool and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen around 5 am. Police are looking for a man wearing a white jacket, gloves and a mask who was caught on video surveillance.
On Monday, a 23-year-old Toronto woman was arrested and charged with being an occupant in a stolen motor vehicle and break and enter tied to a stolen Dodge Durango. On the morning of July 4, the woman was seen getting out of the car on Scottsdale Drive with a man who’s already been arrested and charged. The car had been involved with a break and enter in Waterloo Region.
Drugs
A drug trafficking investigation has resulted in an on several charges including firearm violations. A tip about a man trafficking drugs in Guelph led to search warrants executed in Burlington and Caledonia last week, as well as the accused’s motor vehicle here. Nearly $30,000 worth of suspected cocaine as well as suspected MDMA and other controlled substances and approximately $23,000 in cash were seized. Also seized were two Ruger 9mm handguns were seized, including one which was loaded and had a second loaded magazine.
A 27-year-old Caledonia man faces a number of charges including possessing prohibited firearms, careless storage of a firearm, possessing a prohibited device, tampering with a serial number, four counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possessing proceeds of crime over $5,000.
Fraud
A 20-year-old Toronto man was charged with fraud under $5,000 and two counts of possessing identity documents after trying to open a bank account using a fake name at a south end bank. He had identity documents that had been altered.

Impaired Driving
A 26-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and failing to comply with a release order, plus his licence was suspended for 90 day, after police were informed about an impaired driver near Gordon and Wellington. Police found the vehicle in a south end driveway where the driver was showing signs of impairment, while also breaching a release order by living at a certain address.
A 29-year-old Brantford man was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample, and his licence was suspended for 90 days after police were called to a Woodlawn West business at 3 am on Sunday about a male causing issues outside. The man had already left the scene, but police found his car a short distance away and though they could smell alcohol, the driver repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample.
Theft
A 2006 red GMC Sierra with a chrome grille and scratch on the passenger door was stolen from a parking bear Edinburgh and Stone on Thursday sometime between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm. A Guelph man was arrested for theft under $5,000 and possessing stolen property after stealing an adult tricycle valued at $1,500 from an underground parking lot on Gordon near Kortright early on Tuesday morning. Police had talked to the man on an unrelated matter a few hours after the robbery, which had not been reported yet, but they caught up with him downtown at midnight on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, a 27-year-old Breslau man was arrested and charged with possessing stolen property, fraud under $5,000, three counts of driving while prohibited and six counts of failing to comply with a release order. The arrest resulted from an investigation into a stolen Dodge Durango observed parked just outside downtown in late July. The suspect was tried to sell the vehicle and refused to return the buyer’s money after police impounded the van.
Traffic
A 52-year-old Guelph who was found injured next to his e-scooter on Victoria near Macalister last week has passed away from his injuries. Police are still investigating what happened, and would like to hear from any member of the public who may have seen a man operating an electric kick scooter on Victoria Road South between Arkell Road and Stone Road East shortly after 9 pm on August 16. Police are also seeking members of the public who may have any dashcam video in the area at the time, whether the subject male was observed or not. On Thursday August 17, while responded to reports of a stolen Dodge Caravan downtown, the van rammed the passenger side of a police cruiser when they tried to conduct a traffic stop. The van then reversed over a traffic island and ran a red light at Wellington and Gordon, but police didn’t pursue in the interest of safety. A 29-year-old Guelph woman has been charged with occupying a stolen motor vehicle and breaching probation in relation to the incident, but police are looking for the male driver and a second female passenger. A 20-year-old Brampton man is charged with speeding and stunt driving, and his licence was suspended for 30 days after police patrolling near Gordon and Oak on Wednesday afternoon caught a Lexus doing 108 kilometres per hour in a 50 zone.
Other Notes
A 33-year-old Guelph man was arrested Thursday and charged with public mischief for calling the police last weekend and telling them his car was stolen and involved in a hit and run. Police found the car and a review video surveillance showed that the car hadn’t moved for days and was never stolen in the first place.
Two Guelph men aged 62 and 55 were charged with public mischief after the each claimed that a neighbour had pointed a gun at them. There were apparently a number of neighbour disputes on file between the three men involved.
A 30-year-old Guelph woman was charged with failing to comply with a release order and obstructing police after she gave police investigating an unrelated matter a fake name and date of birth on Monday morning.
