There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault

Break-Ins
A 37-year-old Guelph woman was arrested and charged with failing to attend court relative to multiple charges including failing to attend court and break and enter after police ran into her downtown on Tuesday.
A 38-year-old Guelph man was charged with break and enter and obstruct police early on Friday morning after police foiled a break-in at a north end store and stopped the suspect from stealing between $3,00 and $4,000 worth of tools. When the police caught up with the suspect a short time later in a nearby plaza, he gave them a fake name. It was later revealed that the man was currently wanted for failing to comply with a release order, breaching a probation order and breaching a conditional sentence.
A 29 -year-old Guelph man was charged with 25 criminal offences including, but not limited to, possession of stolen property, break and enter, failing to comply with a judicial release order, two counts of breaching his probation order, driving while prohibited, and several fraud related offences, including possession of identity documents and unauthorized use of credit card. The man was arrested after an investigation into a stolen car found in the parking lot of south end apartment building by the Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) Unit. The suspect was also wanted on two separate warrants out of Guelph and three additional warrants throughout Southwestern Ontario.

Fraud
A 69-year-old Toronto man is facing 10 fraud related criminal charges including, but not limited to, fraud under $5,000, possession of identity documents, identity fraud, and possession of property obtained by crime after he tried to conduct a fraudulent transaction at a south end bank. The man was also found to be wanted in Guelph for fraud related offences and another jurisdiction in Southwestern Ontario for fraud.

Impaired Driving
A 53-year-old Guelph woman was charged with impaired driving under the Criminal Code and driving while suspended under the Highway Traffic Act after police spotted a vehicle operating without rear lights on Tuesday night.
Theft
A 41-year-old man wanted by Guelph Police for an April incident in the south end where $430 in product was taken from a store was arrested in another jurisdiction and transported to Guelph last week. He’s also wanted for theft other police services including Toronto Police and Halton Regional Police.
A 54-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft, breaching a probation order and failing to comply with a release order on Sunday for an incident last Saturday at a Woodlawn Road store where he tried to leave the store without paying and fled with some of the stolen loot after a scuffle with staff.
A 41-year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged with theft and breaching a probation order off a warrant on Tuesday for an incident at a store in the city’s west end last month.
A 38-year-old Guelph female was arrested and charged with theft on Wednesday for a July 11 incident where $200 worth of product at a west end store.

Other Notes

Guelph Police and Fire were called to the Delta Hotel and Conference Centre on Wednesday responding to one vehicle fully engulfed in flames and two others that were being damaged. At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown so police cannot comment on whether this fire was intentionally set. Police are investigating an actual dumpster fire. Police and the Fire Department were called to a business on Silvercreek Parkway North where the contents of a dumpster and three shopping carts were on fire. Witnesses said that they saw three or four people in dark clothing running away after the fire was set. Police are investigating, so if you have any information call Cst. S. A 34-year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged with trafficking in person, procuring, forcible confinement and withholding documents on Tuesday after an investigation by the Human Trafficking Unit. Police are working with community agencies to ensure the victim has been provided adequate supports. A 20-year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged for allegedly failing to attend court relevant to a charge of failing to comply to an undertaking after police located him downtown on Tuesday morning.
A 27-year-old Guelph man was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a judicial order on Monday for an incident last month where the passenger of a car stopped by police was out and about at 1:10 am despite a court ordered curfew condition.
The following arrests were made on Wednesday for failing to attend court: A 61-year-old Guelph woman, a 39-year-old Guelph man, and a 31-year-old Guelph man.
