There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 15-year-old Guelph man was charged with causing a disturbance, obstructing police, assaulting police and mischief under $5,000 early last Saturday morning when police were called about a man yelling at a woman in the area of College and Edinburgh. The man tried to prevent police from talking to the woman and was arrested on obstruction when he tried to head-butt one of the officers before successfully kicking him in the face. Then, at police headquarters, he became angry during a telephone call with his father and tore the phone from the wall.
Break-Ins
A Milwaukee hammer drill, Schwinn bicycle and five fishing rods with a total value of approximately $1,300 were reported stolen from a shed on a commercial property near Massey and Michener sometime between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. Police were called to a business at Speedvale and Marksam last Friday afternoon when the owner reported that she arrived at work to find the glass front door smashed even though no entry was gained. Drugs
A 37-year-old Guelph man was charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking and breaching probation after police were called to a Woodlawn West business where a man was dozing off outside. Quantities of fentanyl and heroin, as well as a digital scale and several unused baggies consistent with drug packaging were found on him, and the investigation revealed he was wanted in another jurisdiction for breaching a probation order.
A 31-year-old Guelph man faces three counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. Members of the Break Enter Auto Theft (BEAT) unit on patrol observed a male party that was wanted on two outstanding warrants. After a brief foot chase, police took the man into custody and found $3,500 worth of cocaine, fentanyl and meth during a search.
A 20-year-old Smithville male was charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition and other weapons charges.
The BEAT Unit was investigating a man who was allegedly in Guelph to traffic illegal substances, and the suspect was arrested near Silvercreek and Willow on Wednesday afternoon. During a search, officers found a Glock 9mm handgun in the man’s waistband. The serial number had been removed and the firearm was loaded with hollow-point bullets with one in the chamber ready to shoot. Officers also recovered approximately $4,000 worth of cocaine and several thousand dollars in cash. (See above.)
Fraud
A 22-year-old man got in touch with police this week to report that he had sent a nude photo of himself to an unknown person he believed to be a female. That person then demanded $550 or the photo would be shared with the man’s contacts, and when they demanded more money he refused to pay. The photo was sent to his friends and aunt.

Impaired Driving
A 33-year-old Guelph man and 25-year-old Guelph man were each charged with impaired driving, and they both had their licences suspended for 90 days after failing roadside breath tests during RIDE programs on Canada Day.
A 25-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving, and his licence was suspended for 90 days after a gas station employee reported to police that a vehicle had reversed and struck a fuel pump and that the driver then appeared to fall asleep afterward.
Theft
A blue and orange Orbea Rallon mountain bike was stolen from a home near Gordon and University as well as a set of wheels and a child’s bicycle seat sometime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. The total value of the stolen items is more than $13,000, and the bike alone is worth $12,000. A grey 2018 Dodge Durango was stolen overnight from Acton and found in a parking lot on Scottsdale near Stone on Wednesday morning. The vehicle was dirty with chunks of grass stuck in the undercarriage, suggesting it had been driven off road, and two car seats were removed but never located. Police are looking for two men who stole $2,100 in Chanel perfume from an Eramosa Road business at 2:30 pm on Thursday. The first male is described as white, late 30s to mid-40s with a medium build and grey hair and wearing a Tommy Hilfiger shirt and grey sweatpants. The second was a white male in his early 30s with brown hair and an athletic build and wearing a white hoodie and black shorts. A diamond ring, gold pendant and other items with an estimated value of $50,000 were stolen from a home near Kortright and Rickson between 9 am and noon on Tuesday morning. A 44-year-old Guelph man was charged with using a stolen credit card, failing to attend court and two counts of breaching probation after stealing a wallet from a work truck and used the credit card at a nearby business.
Traffic
Police are looking for a white man, 30 years of age and wearing a yellow t-shirt, shorts and a backpack and had a large dog with him. He was seen on Edinburgh near Wilsonview throwing $50 bills on the road, but the bills had the words “film prop” written on them, they were fake. A 31-year-old Guelph man was wanted for dangerous driving, flight from police, failing to stop at a collision and breaching a release order after police saw the man leaving an address on Willow Road. Officers conducted a traffic stop, with cruisers stopping in front of and behind the vehicle. The driver reversed, striking one cruiser, then drove forward and hit the other before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
